Re: Is a big war coming ???

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

Re: Need Portfolio Help Please

I don't understand why you're doing a non-deductible TIRA for yourself instead of a Roth IRA, and why you're not maxing it. I do understand why you're doing a spousal TIRA. It seems you're right that certainly we need to max the non-deductible TIRA - I need to make that adjustment. Regarding the co...

Re: Need Portfolio Help Please

Looking at the fees in your 401k, all I can say is "ouch". Because of those high fees, if I were you, I'd have all the 401k in the only fund that has low fees, which is the 500 Index. Then of course, you'd have to work the rest of your portfolio around this. As you want 30% in "core US equity" (I a...

Re: Need Portfolio Help Please

Thank you for your comments. It seems you're right that certainly we need to max the non-deductible TIRA - I need to make that adjustment. Is this really what you meant to say? I said it wrong. We need to convert the non-deductible TIRA to a Roth IRA and then be sure to contribute the $5k max/year ...

Re: Need Portfolio Help Please

A bit of a conundrum....if you use the cheapest fund in the 401k, that pushes bonds into the taxable account. The tax-exempt bonds in taxable generally (but not always) do not pay you as much as taxable bonds in the 401k. In your case, the "best" solution is not that obvious, at least to me. (If yo...

I don't understand why you're doing a non-deductible TIRA for yourself instead of a Roth IRA, and why you're not maxing it. I do understand why you're doing a spousal TIRA. Also, since you're millionaires with 60% of your investments in taxable, you may want to just pay off that mortgage. Thank you...

Re: Need Portfolio Help Please

NS- Thank you for your comments. It is a bit annoying that I can't do what I want within the 401(k) but you're right that I need to pay more attention to expense ratios. As far as aggressive savings, my saving habits were non-existent well into my 30's. The combination of marriage and children quick...

Re: Need Portfolio Help Please

Thank you Sarah for your suggestions! That is a great fresh look at things which is what I need. I will need to study this a bit. Yes, I meant US large cap for "core US equity". The sad thing is I'm sure my company is paying good money for an advisor who recommends all these high-expense, actively-m...
