Company 401k- Fixed Investment Option

My company 401k has a Fixed Option- "GWI Fixed Account- Series Class VI" providing a rate of 2.25% through 9/30/22. With the bond options being only actively managed, is this something I should consider instead of the below actively managed bond funds available? American Funds Capital World Bond Fund R6- ER .46 Pimco Total Return Institutional- ER .46 The details are below. The Great-West Investments Fixed Account (GWI Fixed Account) is a general account product of Great-West Life & Annuity Insurance Company (GWL&A). Because the GWI Fixed Account is a general account product offered through a group annuity contract, participant principal and interest are backed by the entire general account assets of GWL&A. Re: Real Estate LP investments and tax treatment

These are two investments. Yes, the one selling will have been held for 1+ year.

Yes, the refi is covering 150% of initial paid in capital.

In total I have 8 of these real estate LP investments. Do they each stand on their own regarding taxation or can a large capital gain be offset by another investment which has a loss? I would think they all aggregate into my one tax return as I do these investments in my personal name.

I am still in the accumulatio stage, so I've never sold a mutual fund. Maybe I should!

Real Estate LP investments and tax treatment

I have done a few of the above for self storage, industrial and multi-family in the last 18 months and shortly I will receive funds from the sale of a property and a cash out refinance.

Can someone point me to a good resource as far as tax treatment and available tax strategies for this incoming money?

Thanks!

Above says it all. Recent change has resulted in available bond funds being paired down. Currently entire bond allocation (22%) is in 401K.

Previously Vanguard Total Bond Index was available and now only (RCWGX) American Funds Capital World Bond Fund and (PTTRX) Pimco Total Return Fund are options. Is there a resource which can help me determine what mix of the available two funds would best replicate Total Bond?

Thank you

Doctor Rhythm wrote: Thu Sep 23, 2021 1:26 pm Are you saying there were multiple fraudulent withdrawals made from your account last week by check and ACH? If so, there are more urgent problems than lack of notification.

The option to be notified of withdrawals is is pretty much a standard feature at banks. Looking at the mobile app for the national brick and mortal bank, it can be set to notify me by email or push notification whenever there is a withdrawal, or when my balance drops below the amount I designate. Similar options are available for my online bank. I don’t think these notification options were turned on by default, so you’d have to do set it up.
They are (slowly) correcting them and getting me back to where I was, but I've been very disapointed by their behavior.

Poor Bank Customer Service (fraud payments)- Need new one!

Title says it all- after being a bank client of one place for 20 years, the customer service during the last week in which 10+ checks and ACH transactions were paid, and poorly researched, I am looking for a new one. My needs in order of importance are below. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I live in the Midwest.

1. Online Bill Pay
2. Notifications of transactions (after the above experience)
3. Ability to wire between $5k and $50K 5 times/year

Tax Loss Harvesting for 2019

I have read up on the above and still don't feel like I understand its practical approach to my portfolio.

Is it as easy as if I have an investment that has a loss of $3,000 currently it makes sense to sell and also sell an investment which has a $3,000 gain?

Wash sale concern wouldn't need to be considered based on the two stocks (funds) I am referring to above.

Potential purchase of private closely held stock

I would like some help regarding the above. There is the potential where my employer will allow for the above. Details are below.

Some key employees are being gifted 1% ownership in the company with the ability to buy an additional 2%.

My main question would be what sort of information is considered standard to provide to those being offered the opportunity?

1. Most recent audited financials?
2. Other ownership details? Who and how much owned (%).
3. Existing debt?

I'm sure there is plenty of items I haven't mentioned and I would like any other opinions. Company is $20M of revenue with 150 employees and I think around $2M of annual profits before debt service.

I thought my initial post answered almost all, if not all the questions asked. He has no debt. The cash he has is an online savings and cash in a safety deposit box. All of this retirement and taxable investments will go into index funds and both him and I are capable in doing that change. He is interested in what was stated- if there are areas which are better for him to put money based on his income level than just continuing to plow money into taxable mutual funds. From my research this could include tax exempt bonds, I Bonds, Treasuries, EE Bonds etc. Federal tax rate is 39.6 and no state income tax.

401K- $900,000

He has never shown any interests in index funds or boglehead type philosphies...until now. Larry,

I do not plan on purchasing the stock- I feel like I know nothing more than the professionals who do it everyday.

I started this thread more to begin a discussion on the fact that their industry is so large and they are the only publicly held company in it.

They have many competitors held privately. However the second largest company to them in their industry is less than 1/4th in revenue and then it drops off dramatically.

Interesting Stock question

I understand and actively manage my assets in the Boglehead philosophy of either no individual stocks or a very small amount of AA in Individual stocks.

I do have a question regarding the stock of a company I am very familiar with as they are a customer of mine and I thought of something interesting this morning concerning them.

Although their market cap is relatively low at $1.1B, they have a very interesting thing going on. They are the only publicly traded company in their specific industry. Now that may not have anything to do with its return, I did find it very interesting as I havent been able to think of any other industry where this is the case.

Stock ticker is RUSHA.

Thoughts from the board?

on my most recent paystub, (we have a payroll provider now) their is a new line in deductions for HSA.

in addition to the deductions for cost of the insurance and my contribution to the account, there is a deduction for the equal amount of what the company contributes to the account. Is this normal?

The amount contributed by the company is list down below under "benefits' with the 401K match. However, I feel like I am not really getting the HSA employer contribution because an equal amount is being deducted. Any help is appreciated

My wife and I have $115,000 from a home sale. We purchased our new home with a mortgage last week of $330,000 at 15 years and 2.75%. We put 25% down.

We don't need the above funds for living expenses or any other debt. The decision is how much to put into our AA with taxabale Vanguard Mutual Funds and how much to pay down the new mortgage. I am tempted to put 50% in to each one. Is there anything else we should consider?

We max out all available retirement accounts and live on ~60% of our take home pay.

Thank you!
