Re: 15 month CD offer from GE Capital Retail Bank in NYT ad

Keep in mind that as of 12/14/13 GE Capital Bank does not have any ability to download (web or direct) to Quicken. I was surprised they don't offer this whereas most banks do.

Re: Hacker stole 2M passwords: Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Twit

I use multi-factor authentication for Gmail, and LastPass - but I still need to type in my Gmail and LastPass passwords - so keyloggers can still get them. Wondering what else can I do? [/quote] I share the concern about Keyloggers, and don't know how prevalent they are. Adding multi-factor authent...

Re: Free Stanford Course: Finance of Retirement & Pensions

VictoriaF and I have received requests from 6 other Bogleheads requesting to be assigned to a "Boglehead Group" for the group project. We split people up into groups based on when they sent us a message requesting to be in a group. I have sent PMs to all the people that sent us requests. ...

Re: Updated! Denver Meetup Sat. Feb. 9 @ 3PM at Starbucks RE

i'd be up for another meeting as well. BTW - there is an online course being offered by Stanford (free of charge) that some on this forum are signed up for. I'm not sure if the enrollment is still open, but I'm finding it to be quite useful. http://online.stanford.edu/course/rauh-finance Pat

Re: Deferred Fixed Annuity - instead of CD's

Thanks all for the feedback and suggestions - very helpful. Here is an interesting article (may be biased) on the differences between the two: http://www.newyorklife.com/nyl/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=54dda2b3019d2210a2b3019d221024301cacRCRD After thinking this thru, the CD's, even if they pay a bit less...

Re: Deferred Fixed Annuity - instead of CD's

If you are really serious about this, I would check Vanguard's link (if you have an account there) https://personal.vanguard.com/us/whatweoffer/annuities/fixed and see what they have. If they don't have this high a rate, I would wonder how your company can do it without assuming more risk. I don't ...

Re: Deferred Fixed Annuity - instead of CD's

Thanks for feedback: Some thoughts on everyone's comments: - Surrender charge of 7% - yes, quite ugly if you think there is a chance you will need the money. This is long term money - not needed anytime soon. - Commissions - the brokers do make a great commission on annuities - I've "heard"...

Deferred Fixed Annuity - instead of CD's

My broker has suggested a 5 year deferred fixed annuity as an alternative to 5 year CD's for my portion of portfolio that is not earning much in money markets and short term bond funds. It is paying 2.4% and is free of loads and annual fees. Like a CD, they take the contribution and return it in 5 y...

I'm very interested - and expect I have a friend who may join as well.

I live south of Denver, but could meet most anywhere.
