Re: Can I be a member of the two comma club?

Congrats....and welcome to the Club...:sharebeer

As time goes by, I also found it very satisfying to achieve this milestone without including home equity....and then after more years of saving & market gains, it felt great to achieve this milestone with just the after-tax accounts.

Re: Best Tax Software for Backdoor Roth

I've always used Turbo Tax, online version . The software does it correctly, but I sometimes don't. User error. I've gotten tripped up on wording, overthinking the prompting questions, or fear I did something wrong when instead I need to be patient and wait a few more steps to see resolution. Unfor...

Re: Does anyone here with net worths north of $1 mil use financial advisors?

My wife & I are 48 & 47. We have an investment portfolio north of $4MM and we do not use any financial advisors. The incredibly useful information on this site is all that we need. When we had our Will & Living Trusts created about 6 or 7 years ago, the attorney had a financial planner friend who wa...

Re: 529 Plans - At what age do I move to conservative?

For others considering the same question, is it also important to consider your other investments? I have always viewed the 529 accounts as part of my overall investment portfolio. So, if I were inclined to become more conservative because I wanted to protect my tax advantaged money for education e...

Re: 529 Plans - At what age do I move to conservative?

Thank you for all of the replies. They were very insightful and provided me with some good information which validated some of my thoughts. I ended up taking a nice chunk off the table (roughly 45%) and put that in the Guaranteed Income/Principal Plus Interest option (roughly 1-2% interest), and I p...

Re: 529 Plans - At what age do I move to conservative?

Great point about the Aged Based vehicles getting more conservative over time. They are both in the 13-14 Age Band of the Aggressive Age Fund which is roughly 50% Equity / 45% Fixed Income / 5% REIT. At the Age 18+ band, this allocation is roughly 23% Equity / 75% Fixed Income / 2% REIT. I'm leaning...

529 Plans - At what age do I move to conservative?

Hello All, I have a quick question that I was hoping to get some insights on from fellow Bogleheads. We have 2 children...one is a Freshmen in high school and the other is in 8th grade. We have 529 Plans in place for both kids and through aggressive contributions over the years and significant stock...

Re: Question for you high net worth individuals...

The very vast majority of our Net Worth was accumulated the old fashioned way....by Saving. We were very fortunate though in the early-mid 2000's to net about $400k on selling our primary residence in the hot Chicago real estate market. Long story short, we sold our condo to buy a foreclosed house r...

Re: For those with $500k-$1m in investments...

My wife and I are in our mid-40's and are both fortunate to have nice paying careers. We have roughly $3.7MM in invested assets with approx 60% taxable / 40% tax deferred. We max out our Company 401(k) contributions each year, as well as my IRA and her backdoor Roth. By earning way more than we spen...

I also recommend The Millionaire Next Door....like a lot of the other posters. It was an excellent read in my 20's and helped pave the way for understanding the concept of building wealth. I actually made my wife read it after we married to help with concepts like spending doesn't equal wealth. To o...

Thanks Taylor. That was very helpful. From a diversification perspective, is it common for an investor to have both TIPS and regular treasuries?

TIPS - Should I own them?

Hello, First, I have been a long time lurker and am a first time poster. This site has been absolutely fantastic and over the last couple years has really allowed me to take control of our family's finances. So thank you everyone for your excellent advice. I have a quick question regarding TIPS and ...
