Watch the youtube videos from Allyn Hane (The Lawn Care Nut) and/or buy his cool season guide for $25 or so. Follow the plan and your yard will look progressively better over time.

Milorganite is a fertilizer. You need something to kill the weeds but not the grass - think Ortho Weed B Gone.

When you have a mortgage you can always negotiate if things became incredibly bad. If it got to that point the country would be unrecognizable.

Sounds like you have a great package (short commute, great manager, etc). You can always chase dollars but sometimes those dollars demand more of you than they are worth. I'm not a fan of ceramic mugs for the reason you describe - it gets cold too quickly.

I prefer plastic mugs / tumblers - specifically a Tervis works best for me.

It depends where you are. Las Vegas, Phoenix and Florida were hammered by the recession, but they also had big run-ups in value before the recession. Contrast that with where I am, Louisville, and there wasn't a large drop. However, we also didn't have the big run-up before the recession either.

I'm not a fan of self-propelled as those mowers feel heavy and hard to maneuver. Over 20+ years I've had the best luck using inexpensive 20" mowers with a Briggs and Stratton engine.

I find it easiest to look at it like two identical pies.

In this case:

Pie 1 is cut into 10,000 pieces (or shares)
Pie 2 is cut into 1,400 pieces (or shares)

The size of the pie is the same, one is just cut into more pieces.

Anything as simple as an exposed nail-head can cause a leak. I was held back because I was small when I was young.

I wish I hadn’t been held back - frankly got bored my last couple years of high school and was ready to move on. As an example I took no schoolwork home my JR and SR years. It was a waste of time.
