Sounds like they think your work performamce is lacking and that you agree your work performance has dropped off. I advise you listen to their areas of concerns and commit to them you will correct these deficiencies. No need for a huge mea culpa talk about focus. And then kick it into gear and start performing. I am close to your Dad's age. I would not appreciate my son wishing to help me financially. Based on his pension and their SSA and their life style, I am sure they are OK. He could be working because he wants to have something to do or he wants to cover the expense of the dog and car. Unless you see cat food cans in the trash or other signs of financial distress just be supportive by your presence and phone calls.

OP does inherit the home.
OP sells the home.
Basis becomes fair market value at death so gain will be near zero.
OP keeps the money from the sale of the house.

As OP was the inheritor, there's no reason to involve other siblings.

This all assumes as the original post stated, that the OP only has inherited this house.

If the OP later wants to gift other siblings money, that can be worked and kept under the $17k per person amount.
This post is right on.

But to your point, the vast majority of time, the parent just forgets to make the change. Curious, is your assertion that the "vast majority of time" the parent just forgets to make the change based on a study or data? Or just the cases you see in your practice? I think it's a pretty bold statement to make. And if it is just based on what you see, I'd suggest that what you don't see may completely gut your assertion. That is, if the vast majority of time the parent doesn't forget, and makes the change, how would you know? I would think those cases you would not see in your practice, they just are resolved without a problem. In fact, AAA is correct, a parent can change the designation in a case where a child predeceases the parent...

Regarding this year's taxes, I would start with AAARP preparers, who are indeed competent, and OP can at least see if taxes were done correctly. Or if OP is interested in spending down nest egg they can hire lawyers, advisors, and tax accountants. My suggestion does not involve advice but a place to start on 2022 taxes.

I haven't read any evidence that your father is incapable of driving. Age is not a determing factor on one's ability to drive. If he shows signs of poor driving by all means take the steps to stop him driving. His new doctor was very irresponsible for making an assessment without evidence. Almost sounds like age discrimination but I'm not a doctor.

On Fort Myers / Naples - just want to echo other posters here and go so far as to encourage you to go somewhere else for that time (Tampa, potentially). The places people would highly recommend (Captiva / Sanibel, Ft. Myers Beach, etc.) were generally hit pretty hard by Ian. I have family from there and things just aren't at a place where you'd want to go for vacation. You only get so much time to use and unfortunately I don't think FM / Naples is a good use right now. I can't speak to Ft. Myers specifically, but Naples and Marco Island seemed totally fine when I was there 3 weeks ago. In the touristy areas you could barely tell a major hurricane had rolled through 2 months prior - but they obviously had a lot of incentives to get those ar...

I believe that if one's life focus is "self" than one's sense of fulfillment or joy will be wanting or even disappointing. A life of being involved in family or community or fellowship will take you outside of your own happiness and really help you achieve true joy. Just like Charles Dickens Scrooge. Hitting financial goals is a fleeting high.
