I did our own will by using my father in laws as a guide. In most cases a will, POA, and living will are pretty boilerplate and using one from legal zoom or free forms is sufficient. Fears of doing it wrong is overstated in my humble opinion.

Just so you are not disappointed, my comment would be that timing the market is a losing proposition. Capture your gains by rebalancing and just stay the course.

Maybe it is simpler than that. I thought the bigger differential was the cost of passive was less than the cost of active. That's how you win in the long run. Plus sometimes actiion is based on emotion which is not very reliable.

On your day trip to the West Coast, I would recommend the Edison/Henry Ford Winter Home in Fort Myers. It is a really pretty area(palm tree lined street) and the museum is very interesting. It is maybe an hour from Bonita Springs.

I prepaid my property tax due in 2018 and I predict that the IRS will treat prepaid property tax the same as it has in years. I plan on including the prepayment in my deductions.

Some foundations actually have free giving checkbook(online giving not actual paper checks) that have no fees. It works the same as a DAF but you do not have any fees. Of course, the money is not earning thing while it sits in the foundation but it is another option.

Tax consideration was never a factor in my level of giving. I did things to enhance my taxes(like donating this month for next year's giving) but it was never a factor in my level of giving. My level of giving will not change due to tax considerations.

We have had State Farm for car and house for over 30 years and have never had the kind of rate increases some have mentioned. They have also been very responsive and more than fair when needed. We have comparison shopped over the years and have never got a better price. We would recommend State Farm.

I like giving my wife jewelry and other fun items she would not normally buy for herself. We love going to Christmas Eve service, exchanging gifts the next morning, having a nice dinner with our kids and parents. We love the whole generous experience of Christmas.

I am in a similar situation, turning 66 in March, wife already collecting SSA. When is the latest month I can apply to get my first payment in April? Based on OP I assume I can apply now. Is it recommend to call or visit your local SSA office when doing a restricted application?
