Re: Recently Published Social Security Disability eBook

Glad that so many people so far have downloaded the book via Amazon for the Kindle. Was very surprised by the amount who got it during the free giveaway. For those that don't have the Kindle, I've finalized the paperback version which is now available on https://www.createspace.com/4047818 & http://...

Re: On SSDI - rights regarding possible house inheritance

dm200 is correct Very simple answer. If you are collecting Social Security Disabilty benefits (SSD), then your monthly benefits will not be affected by any inheritance. Since SSD is based on your work history credits, you can collect SSD benefits as long as you are disabled, even if you are a multi-...

Re: Buy a new car or repair old one

I love VW, but would never ever buy another one, their parts are way too expensive. I owned a '94 VW Golf that I loved but learned very quickly how exoepnsive parts are. The first weekend I had the car I had to buy a hose, I went to Pep boys and the same hose there was $12 (fits all American made ca...

Re: Mortgage broker

I'm preparing to buy my 1st home and I've start looking around for best mortgage rates. I got pre-approved a few weeks ago. But likely won't use that same company for the actual mortgage b/c it seems there are better rates out there to be had. As for the credit check affecting your credit, I read so...

Re: Owning a used jalopy: Same cost as leasing brand car.

I just saw TV commercial for the $179/mo Civic - the TV commercial clearly says $1,999 due at signing. Not sure what the deal is but I doubt they can do it for 2 grand less than the national promo...then again, maybe they can

Re: Owning a used jalopy: Same cost as leasing brand car.

There must be some difference between the $219 vehicle here and the $176 vehicle there. If not, WHERE DO YOU LIVE? :lol Here's the ad: http://hondacity.net/custom/newspaper-ads/ Looks like an awesome deal for a Honda Civic that has at least some of the bells and whistles (usually deals strip the ca...

Re: Owning a used jalopy: Same cost as leasing brand car.

I posted this previously in the buy or lease thread --> http://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=86095 I used to be the most anti-lease person you probably could meet. I never cared much about what I was driving and never had a new car. 1 1/2 years ago my 99 Civic's suspension dropped out...

In my case, 10 months of payments :)

Re: Best Cash-Back Site Yet: BigCrumbs

I still recommend ebates.com -- I haven't used it that much lately but back in 2010 when I was buying a lot of stuff online for my business I clicked through ebates all the time and I've received over $420 in cash back from them between 1/10 & 1/11. I guess if you use multiple sites and then just cl...

Re: Medical Insurance, Pre-Existing Conditions and Career Ch

Our issue is healthcare insurance and my want to leave my current career (no longer enjoy it - at all). If you are just moving to a different job that offers group health care coverage, pre-existing conditions are automatically covered unless you have more than ~60 days break in coverage. You can u...

Bertilak - Unless you are absolutely in love w/ the Hyundai I personally would price shop other cars b/c of what I had said about Hyundai's having one of the more expensive leases b/c of the much lower resale value. Yes, if it's a lease to buy option this may be irrelevant ... but if you don't end u...

Re: Buy or Lease a Car

[ declan911, You didn't include residual value in your calculations. At lease end you're forced to re-lease or buy something else. Buy a used car and you own it. If you bought a used car for $15000, there's a good chance it would be worth $10,000 in two years. Then, the depreciation would be about ...

Re: Medical Insurance, Pre-Existing Conditions and Career Ch

Price shop & compare the medical insurance plans. Don't assume that just b/c she has a pre-existing condition it meets their definition of pre-existing condition. I have a medical condition myself and was worried about the same situation when switching plans. However, under many plans pre-existing l...

Re: Best Source(s) For Self Educating About Personal Finance

Thank you very much for all of your advice. I like to get my info from a variety of places rather than just one author or one train of thought, so I will definitely be reading up on many of the books & links that were posted above. I also think the idea of taking notes in a Word Document is a great ...
