Tyler9000 wrote: Tue Feb 28, 2023 10:11 pm After the news today about yet another serious LastPass breach announced way too late, I finally bit the bullet and switched to 1Password. The process was extremely easy. 1Password was able to import all of my info using only my LastPass login, and after a few minutes of organizing the accounts I was up and running. So if anyone else is considering the switch, it's really not hard at all.
That really doesn't solve the underlying issue.

You still need to change all your passwords in case your LastPass vault is breached and then the bad guys have your accounts and associated passwords. It will not matter that you are using a new password manager if the passwords themselves have not been changed.

Re: The Wiki has a new look

Mac Mini fired up and running macOS 12.6.x and I can reproduce the problem on https://www.finiki.org/wiki/Main_Page. Actually I can also reproduce it in Edge on Windows 11 if I zoom enough. I am going to start with design intent as the answer. As you zoom in the various sections of the Main Page move around based on the available screen size. At some point there is no longer enough width to put the Sidebar on the left, so gets moved to the top. FWIW, Wikipedia has changed their interface and the sidebar splits into two components, some on the left (Main menu) and some on the right (The Tools section specifically). These seem to auto-hide as you zoom enough. On thing to note, Wikipedia is running the latest and greatest version of MediaWiki....

Unfortunately that eliminates the comparison to https://www.finiki.org/wiki/Main_Page. It would almost be worthwhile to have you PM an email address and password and I can give you an account on finiki.

I have an old Mac Mini that I guess I might need to fire up and see if I can reproduce your issue.

Re: Electric Auto Question[s - considering a purchase]

Do electric cars lose range in cold temperatures? Yes, some EVs can lose up to 35% of their range in freezing conditions, but each model performs differently. That's the headline from the Study: Winter & Cold Weather EV Range Loss in 7,000 Cars Several organizations have studied these effects, including AAA , but they are often completed in laboratory settings or with only several vehicles. This research project includes a much larger data set. Instead of dozens of vehicles, we are analyzing thousands, and recording their performance in real world driving conditions. For those considering or owning an EV, they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's the main chart from the article: https://assets-global.website-files.com/60ce...

KeePass Password Manager Vulnerability: Is Your Data at Risk?

I don't use KeePass but anyone who does might want to read KeePass Password Manager Vulnerability: Is Your Data at Risk? - gHacks Tech News . KeePass disputes the vulnerability. It is described on the official security issues page of the KeePass website. The main argument leveled against the vulnerability is that if an attacker has write access to the system, that system is compromised and not secure anymore. With write access, an attacker may "perform much more powerful attacks than modifying the configuration file". The attacker could simply replace the KeePass executable with a malicious one, add malicious programs to the system's autostart, modify configuration files for other apps or change Registry information. Installing Windows from scratch isn't that fun of an experience. There are like multiple reboots and can take a long time. Drifting a bit off topic but neither is installing a Mac from scratch. I inherited a Mac mini (Late 2014) that had been wiped. Repeated attempts to Erase and reinstall macOS - Apple Support (CA) ended in a reboot and then a failure without a bootable machine. Rinse and repeated a number of times. Eventually on the 7 or 8th attempt it finally offered Monterey OS and took over an hour on very fast internet to get the machine running. Not impressed in the least. Back on topic, I have found installing/upgrading a desktop focused Linux distribution like Linux Mint very simple and straightforward. I previously posted about m...

Like everything, it depends. Full disclosure that I'm a software engineer/developer that has experience across many different OSes. Lots of posts here seem to be comparing Linux server installations versus desktop or laptop OS installs. Clearly the apparent complexity of running and maintaining a Linux server could frighten off the desktop/laptop user who is looking at Linux for the first time. As many have pointed out in previous posts, for most people who might be taking a look at Linux for the first time, the direct comparison should be something like Windows xx, MacOS xx, etc. versus a desktop oriented Linux distribution like Linux Mint . From my experience having Windows 10, Windows 11, MacOS Monterey and Linux Mint on various desktops...

Yes, some good features there, including the ability to only search first post, etc... If it was always better, the site should consider making it the default search experience from all its links. If you are willing to make a small effort the board's gear Advanced search is always available throughout the board. The only place that "Google ..." is the default is the search box in the header bar. Right beside that is the gear which leads to Advanced search . When running Windows, I would recommend making sure you have Samsung’s Drive Magician installed and running. It provides useful insights into the operation and health of the drive. It will let you know when SSD firmware updates are available.

Re: Windows 11 [Upgrade from Win 10 to Win 11?]

Has anyone moved, or is considering moving, from firmware TPM to using a TPM 2.0 module (hardware) solution?
Just a follow-up. For my Gigabyte X570 motherboard I did purchase the GC-TPM2.0_S 2.0 module and installed it. The BIOS and Windows 11 2H22 seamlessly changed over to use the hardware TPM without issue.

Re: Windows power profile has disappeared

Which version of Windows are you using?

Look at System->About and let us know the Edition and Version, perhaps even OS build.

Re: What are you listening to now

Spotify randoming picked Mary Black's Babes In The Wood | YouTube for me. Amazing voice so I'm now exploring her music a bit further.

Re: How to delete messages in inbox?

When you are reading a private message (PM), there is delete button that looks like (near the top) that can also be used to delete the message.
