Re: Ad hoc travel to Antarctica

Re: Saving$ by Saving on Power Bill: Reducing Standby Power

One of my goals for 2013 is to reduce my power bill. I'm particularly interested in power strips that reduce the standby power that so many devices suck up even when off. Do the Bogleheads have any suggestions for any such devices that actually work well? My concerns include: 1. Many of my devices ...

Re: Ditched Flash Player - Computer is Much Faster

I run IE/firefox at work, and I have noticed a significant amount of slowdown on Firefox since updating to the latest flash player. It is certainly intermittent, but when it happens the tab separates out as if it were a new window and goes 'not responding' for a period of time before the browser rec...

Re: Xbox Help

Re: Where do you keep your emergency fund?

How big are the tiers some are mentioning?

A third each?
3mo expenses each maybe?

Right now mine is in ally savings. I'm looking for something better but with rates so low I haven't made a move yet.

Re: Answer to questions

Your priority is correct. Invest in the 401K up to the company match; then your IRA to the maximum We just learned in another thread that in Massachusetts 401k contributions are exempt from state tax but TIRA contributions are not. Obviously this favors maxing the 401k before contributing to a TIRA...
