Re: What is the best option to pay off a house?

3300 seems high for a 160k even for Florida. Have you had a wind mitigation performed? They cost around $100 but can lower your insurance.

Donating blood will give you your blood type and cholesterol level.

Re: Inground Pool

You should calculate what it would cost to maintain before considering going with one. Here in Florida it's $50 or more a month to maintain. This is not calculating the cost of additional water or heat.

Why not just join a public pool?

Re: Should I refi?

[...]I was counting on the price of the house going up which would allow me to remove the pmi without requiring 20% of the sales price. That still does not make sense, but like I said, it is just for my curiosity, and does not impact what you ought to do going forward, though I would not have used ...

Re: Should I refi?

I bought my current home in 2010 for 200k. House appraised at that time for 220k, and Zillow has it at 290k. I think it would appraise at 240k based on comps in the area. I put 5% down on an FHA loan and have a current balance of 189,500 @ 4.25%. In addition, I'm paying $146 per month in PMI. I pla...

Re: 49% of Americans saving zilch for retirement

I started saving at 18 (via roth). I worked at a company that offered a sarsep (later converting to a 401k) but i wasn't eligible since I was too young (under 21). I don't understand why there would be a lower age limit for retirement plans. If anything, allowing younger employees an opportunity to ...

Re: Would this provide greater returns over the long run?

Let's say you lined up all your bills so they were always due on the first of each month and always cost $15,000. Let's further assume that this is a world without surprises--you don't need an emergency fund, for instance. And let's say you make approximately $15,000 per month, split across two dir...

Consumers credit union offers > 4% for balances up to 10k. If you meet their minimum requirements to earn the rewards it's well worth it.

I'm not interested in hearing political opinions about this. You post a very political article, yet you don't want to hear any political opinions? If the individuals mentioned in the article followed the law when contributing to their Roth IRA, I don't know why there is an issue (other than the obv...

Re: Anyone else experience a gigantic loss in real estate?

One way to look at is that you lost 200k. A differnet way to look at it is you rented the house for 5 years @ 3k a month which really isn't bade for a 600k house. I'm guessing your taxes were lower do to the interest payed on the loan, so you also have that. We bought a house in June of 2005 that ha...

Here is a few links to suicides brought on by the scheme. I'd say it was pretty bad for the victims.

As someone who lives in ft myers I can tell you it's a nice place to visit. You will definitely need a car in ft myers and just about anywhere in southwest florida unless you are staying directly on the beach.

Do you have a budget for this trip?
