To update, a syndicated tech column in our local paper suggested this route: upload to Dropbox on the phone, then download from Dropbox on the computer. I've been doing that 200-300 photos at a time and it's working very well and they aren't grainy or less detailed.

Thank you all. I think for now we'll max my 457 and up the 529 contribution to $5K a year and give it 6 months and reconsider.

You must be in the 12% federal tax bracket since 15% no longer exists. Are RMDs the only reason you're shying away from the 457? Why do you need more flexibility than the 457 provides? Are you sure they're not fungus gnats? Those resemble fruit flies. They reproduce in the soil of potted plants that are kept moist. We had them in potted orchids. They can be controlled simply by allowing the soil to dry out a bit between waterings. For true fruit flies?? Get a lizard? I'm not sure...

OP here, I'd go with the floating floor except for the side that meets the railing. Envision a flat board sticking up about 1/4 of an inch--that's the piece under the railing that meets the current linoleum. I can't figure out that seam to make it look nice.
