Re: Electrical Outlet Covers

I'm dying to see what ends up going in, because I cannot for the life of me understand what the OP is trying to accomplish. People have posted just about every outlet cover I can think of and the OP keeps saying "nah". It's like watching me try to get my wife to decide on where to eat. I am partially refinishing a kitchen. The old colors were cherryish cabinets with green walls. The outlets and plates are mostly beige on beige. I repainted the cabinets grey along grey walls ( There is not much wall space). I still have one wall that is green for an accent. I want to change the outlet and plate colors to black and white or silver. Home Depot has a black outlet. Is this what you are looking for? If you don't find what what your loo...

Re: Electrical Outlet Covers

Why can't you unscrew the existing covers and replace them with new covers? Are the outlet covers ugly or do you just not like beige? The outlets themselves are beige, which is part of what I am trying to change Which means you need to replace the outlet with one that is to your liking. You will not find “covers” that accomplish your goal. I have used these through the house and I paint them the same color as the walls. I guess I was wrong and they do exist. However, I can’t believe this is legal, and would never consider using them. You would literally be using all of your outlets with the plug pulled out halfway all the time. That’s horrifically dangerous, for more than one reason. I think they must be very thin but it does make me wonde...

Update: I bought this thing called a shower shroom. It looks kind of similar to the shower catcher/strainer I had previously which did not work. I think new one actually works. The only difference is a little rubber catcher in the middle but somehow it manages to stop some hair. It seems to work because I need to clean it out once per week.

I haven't had a stopped-up tub/shower drain since I put these in. I'm continually surprised at how much hair I lose during just one shower. (I clean it out every time.) I also put them in the bathroom sink drains. I have no idea how I get hair in my bathroom sink, but it builds up.
My drain screen, which looked just like the photos in this topic, did not work. I just ordered a shower shroom.

My efile in PA was rejected multiple times. Chat client service does not help at all. All they say is to mail in your return. How could HR Block not know why a efile was rejected? Re: Swapping out Drain Plug in Bathroom Sink

I haven’t checked, but since every other little thing is on YouTube, I would bet that someone has posted a video about this. I have done this job numerous times, mostly to take the pop up plug out to remove hair clogs. I remove the pop up plug and install it all by feel. Our sink is mounted on a vanity, so it’s even less accessible than a pedestal sink. On one of our plugs, the top unscrews from the rest of the apparatus and possibly a shiny new one might just screw on without any further disassembly. Once you know how the pop up drain assembly works, it’s easier to do it by feel. There is a spring clip that is used to connect the vertical rod to the horizontal rod that connects to the plug. Sometimes you don’t need to take the spring clip...

The door covers the entire opening. The other cabinets are drilled straight into the wood but the hinges go into a pre cut opening. I doubt that I could create the opening for the hinge

Re: Removing Wine Rack from Cabinet

barnaclebob wrote: Thu Jan 05, 2023 9:53 am look for nails, screws, etc in the areas where it seems fixed to the cabinet, potentially the head could be on the outside of the cabinet. If thats the case then you might be able to get an oscillating tool back there to cut the fastener and if that doesnt work and you dont want to remove the cabinet then destructive removal may be the easiest option.

Other than that we cant help without detailed pictures.
I think there were some finishing nails inside the cabinet. I used the brute force method.

Re: Removing Wine Rack from Cabinet

The wine racks are out. I think the issue was some small finishing nails. I wiggled the racks and applied some extra pressure to get them out.

Removing Wine Rack from Cabinet

I was wondering if anything would have some insight into removing a wine rack from a cabinet. You can't just pull it out. It feels like it is screwed into the cabinet but I am not sure. The bottom part and top part move a little but the sides do not move at all.

Any thoughts?

Re: Thanksgiving Toilet Tank Hissing

I think I may have narrowed down the problem. It seems like there is a rubber piece in the cap of the fill valve that gets worn out. I may try to get a new cap with rubber piece and give it a shot

diy60 wrote: Thu Nov 24, 2022 9:57 am Hissing is usually the fill valve in a barely open position. For that, I would first try to adjust the float downward to see if more buoyancy force triggers the valve shut.

For ghost flushing, it is usually blisters forming on the silicone seal. Changing the flapper seal is an easy fix.

I just went thru all of this a few days ago and busted one of the cheap foreign made plastic parts and had to replace the whole flapper assembly. Good luck
It seems to be a fill valve problem. I just do not know how to fix it permanently. I watched videos in which people took off the cap and cleaned but I am a little nervous about taking it apart and not being able to get it back together.

When does the 'hissing' occur? While the toilet tank is refilling after use, or does it come and go at random times? The answer here is important for the diagnosis.
After flushing and sometimes it stops temporarily but then it hisses again.

Re: Thanksgiving Toilet Tank Hissing

. To me hissing sounds more like a refill valve issue. Agree. Did you take the lid off and see if you can identify what is making the sound? Flappers are a common source of problems, but they don’t normally hiss Yes, I took the lid off and tinkered with some of the parts. I do not think it is the flapper. I think it is the fill valve. The sound is coming from the fill valve. The water is not coming up to the line where I think it normally goes. If I tinker with the fill valve, the water will rise a little higher and the hissing stops. The issue is that I do not know how to fix the fill value. There could be some gunk in it but I am not sure., or may be something is loose. I am hesitant to take parts off the fill valve. The strange thing is...

Hemming Tape - Does it Work?

Like many other people, I take pants to a tailor to get them hemmed. My tailor's prices have gone up a lot and I do not want to spend $20 to get lounge pants hemmed. The pants only cost $20. I am probably not going to experiment with more expensive pants but for cheaper ones, there has to be a better way. Has anyone tried using hemming tape? Does it work?
