Re: Anyone familiar with "American Financial Education Alliance?

Got a brochure in today's mail for one of these SS benefit options seminars put on by AFEA. The fine print absolutely made me think it's a thinly-veiled way to get clients while proclaiming "educational only". From the fine print: - (instructors) have been pre-screened and requiired to pass a series...

I don't see any benefit to asking the advisor to justify her position with numbers. She will promise to get back to you, the back office people will feed her a bunch of carefully curated and incomprehensible data that "proves" her right, and then what? Is anyone's mind going to be changed? No.

The good thing is the purchase price is irrelevant. You would only claim the current value of the item. The It's Deductible software is good at helping you figure the value of items. Those values, pictures of your donations, and a receipt from the charity would be a solid defense if you are question...

Welcome to Bogleheads!

Personally, if I envisioned moving out of ML in a year, I wouldn't put any more money in ML. Until you're ready, you can keep the windfall in a money market fund and earn over 2% with no risk. Do not put money in LIRNs. They are illiquid.

I suspect it's because the details of "market goes up" means not including dividends and a cap (or maybe a "participation rate" or "spread") on how much you can get each year from market growth. So "market growth" doesn't count let's say 2% each year in dividends that you would get if you were inves...
