The 3 fund portfolio still kicks out a lot of dividends....I'd like to have enough principle to live off dividends some day. We'll see. Why? I guess I'd divide the price of the house by the square footage, this will give you price per square foot and then thats a more apples to apples comparison. Some builders just charge more, maybe overhead, more demand, etc. helps to get references or better yet walk through a house they built and see...

Eat and drink a lot along the way...pace yourself and don't burn all your matches on the first few climbs....it's a long way and 10,000 ft of climbing is a ton.....hopefully you have gotten some long rides under your belt so far this year?

I felt Wisconsin's plan had too high costs to make the deduction worthwhile. I have 5 and 7 year olds and each has 55k in the Nevada (Vanguard) age based aggressive 529. I stopped contributing in 2015 since I don't know how much money to put in there. Tax loss harvesting in taxable may be the better...

I'd walk away right now if I had 10M.

This year I should pass 5M. With a mortgage, 2 young kids, and being in my early 40s, I'll keep chipping away but this year plan to work less.

We have not had many large medical bills overall. I am paying as I go with an HSA debit card and contributing the max allowed to the HSA each year. Our medical bills are usually less than 1-2K annually. I initially kept receipts for a few years but that was a total PITA and not worth the hassle for ...

2012 Honda Odyssey...ours must be EX-L since we have leather seats, everything holding up well at 65,000 miles. We didn't do the entertainment thing...You can get your kids headphones and a hand held DVD player for much less...plus they can take them into the hotel room too or wherever...and they do...

Vanguard Aggressive Age Based for my 6yo and 4yo...put 50k total, in each over the last 4 years...thinking of not putting in anymore or quiting when oldest is 8...and then let it sit for 10 years. Agree contributing later doesn't offer much benefits. No state deduction for me either. could be better...

I've been working my butt off since age 18. The harder I've worked the luckier I've gotten. Finding this forum randomly has been great. Thanks folks! This year finally taking the foot off the gas and allowing some lifestyle creep...with several million earned and saved by my early 40's, why not.

2012 we bought in November 2011, 65,000 miles. No issues. Heated seats are nice. We skipped the "infotainment" system and bought 2 of those of mini dvd players for our kids and saved money too boot. Plus those mini dvd players are good for the airport and hotels.

I got $200 or $300 for opening an account at Chase last year. Worked great because the Chase branch is much closer to my house than my previous bank.

I let some pile up then invest it on down day. Like yesterday I bought 38k of vtsax.
Also avoided the quarterly distribution and it's taxes. Invest every 1-2 months this way.

Far and away for me was having a guy cut our lawn once a week and to boot he does the trimming too which I never did. Took me about 75 minutes to do (walking behind self propelled) and I hated every minute of it.

It's all relative. This year I hired someone to mow my lawn for 35 dollars a mow. Use the free time saved to spend with my kids and take them to the pool or their sporting events. Worth it to me and my lawn looks better too. Anyone wanna buy a Honda self propelled 3year old mower?

My international allocation has deviated from my target over the past 1year or so....so last week with VTIAX (total international) down 2.7% I purchased a good chunk with most all my dry powder. :mrgreen:

Should get a decent mid year bonus this month, and will look for opportunity to do the same again.

As Total Stock Market has taken off the past few years my bond allocation has drifted down and I haven't rebalanced. Probably at 25% bonds at age 41. Problem is almost all my bond allocation needs to be Muni's and I'm not sure about having 80% of my bond allocation all in Munis.
