United Healthcare Bronze HSA 100

Greetings, I've been looking at health plans for 2015 and came across one called Bronze HSA 100 from United Healthcare. eHealthInsurance is calling this a PPO, but there's a catch -- you are required to choose a PCP, and if you don't get a referral to a specialist and go see one anyway, they'll redu...

Re: Miami South beach

Memorial Day weekend in Miami is Urban Beach Week. My brief experience 4 years ago was that you'll see a lot of tricked out cars (probably true most of the year), insanely crowded streets, and inexplicable traffic at 2 in the morning. I had a good time, but YMMV depending on your tolerance for 350k...

In-laws' life insurance policies

Hi All, My in-laws asked me to take a look at their life insurance policies. Father-in-law has for all intents and purposes lost his job, and they are having difficulty making ends meet. I think they are wasting money on these policies, but wanted to ask the experts before advising them. Mother-in-l...

Re: How do you [handle home equity in retirement calculators

What about a home equity loan? I don't include home equity when I run retirement calculations, but it occurred to me that in years in which the market is down very significantly, I would probably be able to take out a loan to help pay for expenses, instead of having to sell my stock funds while they...

Re: Life Insurance as an alternative college investment

To play devil's advocate, I own a copy of a book called Wealth Secrets of the Affluent ( http://www.amazon.com/Wealth-Secrets-Affluent-Building-Protection/dp/047013979X ), and in it the author devotes multiple chapters to discussing why investing in life insurance for college is better and more prof...

Thanks to all who posted. Although I believe I'm doing the "right" thing, all of your points are well taken, and maybe it is best that I back off. The amount of money at stake isn't life or death! For future reference, I would still love to know what you all think of the investments that m...

Opening IRAs for my sister- and brother-in-law

My new in-laws know very little about investing and I've taken the initiative to set up Roth IRAs for my new siblings (ages 18 and 24). Don't want to screw this up, so I am posting here. Both the sister and brother currently have about $36,000 in taxable accounts made up of 2 mutual funds: - $15,000...
