Re: Refinance Mega Thread

Update from me on my experience with Owning. 8/30 apply online, phone call within an hour. 9/1 lock 9/9 a few phone calls asking for documentation, underwriters don't like something. 9/10 sign closing docs. I know at this time that I'm not through underwriting. Don't send any cash. 9/14 and 15 unde...

Re: Financial Review / Baby Prep

I think you guys are doing well, have a great salary and our covering your basis. There are many good 529 plans these days. We chose the Utah 529 plan. How much that impacts you will depend on how much you decide to contribute. We only put a modest $500/month total for both kids, but luckily my pare...

Re: Refinance Mega Thread

Lol yep. I posted last night on this. Applied 8/31, Signed Thursday, last night there was a kind of frantic call from LO because underwriting doesn’t like how my paystubs are reported out. More phone calls today, apparently my wife’s (kind of small) income which we hadn’t included will make the dif...

Re: Discretionary spending strategy

At your stage I would say don't worry about it in that detail. This is where the "life is too short" part of my brain comes to play and balances out the aggressive saving/investing. Set your monthly/yearly budget and enjoy IMO.

Re: new car - 0% interest loan ?

Assuming OTD price is the same, I would not hesistate to take the 0% loan for the longest duration. Is this through the dealership finacing or somewhere else? We are planning on getting likely a brand new SUV within the next 2 years. I want a Honda Pilot, but they don't typically give out 0% financi...

Re: Refinance Mega Thread

I'm currently in the process with Owning. Applied on 9/1 and will be signing closing docs with the notary tonight. I've read some people mention that Owning will move forward with closing docs before the loan being approved by underwriting. Anyone want to share their experiences with that? Is there...

Re: Refinance Mega Thread

What would you do: Would you roll in payoff amount into new loan? Or bring cash to close? It’s about a $600 difference. I’m thinking I rather Just roll it in and keep the $600 In my pocket because $600 only raises my monthly payment by only $4-5 dollars. Am I thinking it correctly? I had that optio...

Re: Refi Question - help deciding

You can lock with multiple companies. Usually if you get a appraisal waiver, you will get it regardless of what company you go with. I say lock with both. See if Ally Pro can beat Better's offer. Heck, I would even consider shopping around more. I know it depends on location, LTV, credit score, etc,...

Re: Paying off sub 4% mortgage interest rate early

I've been asking myself the same question over the past several weeks. I am in the process of refinancing. Will be getting a 30 year @ 2.5%. We already max out retirement, contribute to a 529 plan and invest a little with taxable income. Also no debt, inflated emergency fund and enough cash to cover...

Re: Newbie couple need advice on long term investments

Thanks for the reply. Interesting to hear contributing to pre-tax rather than post-tax. I have to read the 401k my company offers. My wife has a government job currently and has a 403b and her pension instead of a 401k. Not sure how comfortable we feel maxing out our 401k's and putting in an additio...

Newbie couple need advice on long term investments

Hi Bogleheads! Would greatly appreciate some advice on getting started on our retirement. I definitely wish I started earlier, but better to start now then never! We are planning on opening a Roth IRA with Vanguard for 2010 year. Age Me: 30 years old Wife: 25 years old Location: Northern California ...
