How would VTI be more tax efficient than FSKAX fidelity total stock mutual fund? I thought long term gains were treated the same?
VTI looks to be .03 Er and FSKAX .0125 ER.
Does the tax efficiency out weight the ER savings?

Like title says parents wants to give money from primary home sale to kids. What is best method?
I understand that they can gift 15k / year. How is the best way to give 100k to each child ( 2 kids) with minimal tax implications?

I would highly recommend consulting with an Elder Care Coordinator or Geriatric Care Manager. I would call several (like, at least 5, maybe more) to get a sense of whether you are a good fit personally, and their background and experience. A competent Geriatric Care Manager will likely charge by the hour, and will be able to offer advice on what level of care is needed, suggestions on how to arrange for that care, etc. etc. From what you describe, it may be that your relative can be cared for at home with professional help; may benefit from an adult day care; or some other solution that is much cheaper that full care at a nursing home. Consulting with a Geriatric Care Manager will not be cheap, but it will be well worth it to get a sense o...

Re: I bought a STOLEN vehicle!!!
Are you sure the car wasn't stolen from you??? Are you proposing that someone impersonated CHP officials to steal a used Altima worth $13k? That's funny or possibly sad. Cheers Yes, why not? It's more profitable and less violent than stealing the cash from someone's wallet. The story sounded odd. Also - I was trying to figure out - how they found the buyer of the car? Through the DMV I guess. But it's such a weird story. I've never bought used through a private seller. But I will put this on my list of things to check when we buy used. Vic What if it was the original sellers circle that posed as CHP. Steal the car back, put it on the market for sale, rinse and repeat. Wouldn't CHP tow the car rather than wait all day for OP to get out of w...

Re: Purchasing an old home 100yrs +
Yes, we renovated a home that was 80 years old. It took 10 years, we pretty much did one major room at a time. I'll just make a list that might clarify things: 1) skim coating on the wallpaper didn't work. It soaked through the wallpaper and then came off in sheets. The "glue" however was flour based, that might have been the reason. With the exceptions of the bathrooms and kitchen, all the ceilings were papered. It took a lot of razor blades but when soaked, the flour based glue released easily. 2) Two electricians said the old knob and tube wiring was sound so we left it. 3) The old coal furnace was converted to oil and covered in asbestos. The tank was in the basement. The conversion to gas was handled by the new HVAC company ...

If your financially comfortable and an $10k surprise on a project just makes you roll your eyes, sigh, and say, "well that sucks" then your probably in the right frame of mind for a house like this. I never owned my own home soon not sure what projects cost. Only know from hearsay and some internet searches. My budget would be 100k for renovations. My guesstimate is 25k for kitchen, 12k bathroom, 4k floor sanding (two floors). We only went to open house so not sure if we need to up the circuit breaker to 200 amp. Not sure if it's oil and we need to switch to gas. Not sure if the roof will need to be replaced. Re: Purchasing an old home 100yrs +
Thanks for everyone's detailed comments and experience.
Yeah while I would renovate over time and not so rushed, my wife doesn't feel the same way. And the asbestos thing would be concerning, especially with my two yr old. Wouldn't want disturbed asbestos flying around.
I guess I may have to abort my dreams. At least that's the way it's looking now. I also don't want to buy fully renovated because my wife wants an all white intererior ( like kitchen) and a lot of homes don't have that. So we'd essentially be paying for already renovated only to renovated over it. I guess I will have to find something in the middle. House that only needs bathroom and kitchen work. (And not 100+ yrs old)

Purchasing an old home 100yrs +
Hello all I'm in the market in purchasing a new home and one caught my eye. It's a colonial built over 100 yrs ago. Love the high ceilings and the architecture it has to offer. It does need a lot of updating. Bathroom Kitchen Remove wallpaper on almost all rooms Sand the floor My primary concern is going down a rabbit hole. For example once I hire a contractor to redo the bathroom and cut the floor open to add pipe to a separate bathtub, will they say "oh these old pipes are not up to code. We will need to redo all the plumbing". And with the wall paper, if it's too difficult to remove or after removing, we realize it all needs skim coating, we may go the route of putting up thin 1/4inch sheetrock to cover it. Is this now consider...

Hello,
Was hoping someone familiar with this can guide me. My rx330 2005 had a tail light go out (left outer). I went to check again today but this time the light was on and the other side (right lift gate tail light) was off. This leads me to believe that the bulb is good but there is some other issue. Would this be a fuse, circuit, something else?

Most cases the better the schools the higher the taxes. Ridgewood has top tier school systems and u can get something nice in the 500k-700k range but taxes are high. They have a train station in town. Otherwise North Bergen county in general has good schools but Ridgewood kinds stands out We were looking at NJ too but decided to go the coop route in the borough's Things we considered why wanted to -Coop maintenance includes heat and water -Good school districts -Cheaper commute cost. Just pay for metro card rather than NJ trains + metro cards for each of us - don't have to pay for parking car at train station -faster commute time - option to walk to stores and walk to public transportation Cons - sacrifice space - no backyard -less privacy

Where do you buy CPAP replacement parts?
Hi all Last year I changed my insurance to HSA and now more I'm more price conscious when re-upping replacement parts for my CPAP device. I recently ordered parts from the vendor I always go to and ordered specific parts that I needed rather than a bunch of parts they send me in a 6 month cycle. When I received the package I noticed extra quantities in the parts I ordered and extra parts I didn't even order. I called them and inquired about this. First they advised they they will send a label so I can return the additional parts I ordered because it was sent in error but offered no refund. When I asked why they said I didn't get charged for it. I proceeded to explain that is indeed on my invoice and they asked to send an email with picture....
