Re: Can I stop saving for a retirement 30 years in the futur

I wouldn't stop saving for "old age retirement." Keep maxing that sucker out until you decide to pull the trigger and FIRE. Take advantage of the tax savings now and then ROTH pipeline it once you FIRE and have little/no taxable income in early retirement.

Re: Another Smartphone/Verizon Question

if you wait it out another month or so then all verizon prepaid including page plus will have 4g LTE. Rumor is you won't have to do any goofy flashing or anything like that either. Just get a sim card from page plus, pop it in your verizon smartphone and enjoy the savings.

word on the street is that Page Plus will have 4G LTE soon and you won't have to do the goofy flashing to get it on the network. Just sign up, get a sim and pop it in.

Re: Have you used Ramit Sethi's Courses?

I have never taken his courses and frankly I have stopped following what he has been up to in the last year or two but I will admit that his book did change my life. It is what brought me here and made me realize that personal finance can be easy if you are honest with yourself and automate. If you ...

Re: Help me choose a new tv

I am really happy with my new vizio I picked up from Costco. The new ones end in a B instead of an A. my model is the E480i-B2. (last year's model would have been A). The E series is the starter series which is still great this year. M is the next step up.

Re: Best Battery Charging Strategy

It really doesn't matter. (It does matter a little but trivial.) Here's a tip. Don't stress about sustaining the battery life. Recharge whenever you can. After 2 years, if your laptop battery degrades, just replace the battery or get a new laptop. You can easily find a laptop recycle program. For e...

MMM is a little extreme though I somewhat agree with his philosophy and I am part of the early retirement philosophy club.

Another Mustachian here.
I think in a way, MMM is the Millenials' Boglehead equivalent.

Re: having trouble getting homeowners insurance

This means that you are in a PC 9 or a protection class 9. For underwriting purposes this means that you live far away from a responding fire department and once they get there they won't have a hydrant to hook up to. This is common but it will lead to pricier homeowners insurance. I would find a re...

Re: Suit [for wedding]

i've had luck at the nordstrom rack. They have a decent selection and I lucked out with their calvin klein suit... I think it was $200-300. I am an odd size though- 48XL. I only wear suits maybe 5x per year so I was fine cutting costs a bit. I think an affordable suit + a good tailor is better than...

motorola is having a nice sale on unlocked moto x for $299. You can even customize the color. My wife has this phone and loves it. then you can pick whatever carrier you want and you aren't locked into a contract.

Re: Do you have a favorite chocolate bar?

i've been buying the dark chocolate bars from Aldi @ $1.99 per bar which is actually 5 small pre-wrapped bars which I find makes it easier to control myself and not eat the whole darn thing. I think that is a pretty good price but I will also take a look at what Trader Joe's has to offer.

I have wells fargo and they require a few things to remove escrow... no lender placed insurance on the loan, 80% loan to value or less, 12 months of on time payments, escrow balance can't be negative, FICO score much not be less than 680 and has not declined since loan closing

Re: Cancel Verizon cellular ($100/mo) for PagePlus resllers?

Jack is it $100/mo just for you or is it a family plan? If it is $100/mo for only you then you are definitely paying more than you should be paying. Verizon has a new plan called the "loyalty" plan for customers who are near the end of their contracts (or contract free) which gives you unl...

Re: Vehicle suggestions for Big & Tall?

I dropped by a Nissan, Honda and Subaru dealer yesterday and did a couple test drives a couple. I test drove an Accord without a sunroof that fits me, but was very uninspiring to drive and I also test drove a CR-V and felt the same as an Accord (I realize I'm used to the sportiness of an Acura TL a...

Re: Vehicle suggestions for Big & Tall?

I would definitely check out Subaru. My wife has a 2013 Legacy and I love it. I am 6'5" and I have more than enough room. Even with the driver seat all the way back there is still enough leg room for me to sit in the back seat as well. The AWD is a plus and they are relatively cheap. If you are...

Re: Notify insurance carrier of new roof?

a new roof is less likely to sustain a leak causing interior water damage, more resiliant to hail damage, etc. There could be a discount because of this. Also, if your new roof does sustain damage, you would want your insurance company to know that it is a new roof when factoring depreciation and wh...

This is a crazy coincidence but I am from Peoria, IL and am currently living in Chicago...just moved back 6 months ago after 4 years in Philadelphia.
