HR pro's: who pays 401k plan setup fees?

This is a question for HR pro's:

My employer recently changed payroll/401k providers on their own accord.

Within my new 401k, I see several "Plan Setup" fees, amounting to hundreds of dollars.

Is this customary, for the employees to bear the cost of an employer's decision to change plan providers? This is how I am reading these fees.

The fees seem to be a percentage of assets, not flat.

As a complarison, I've done full brokerage transfers and that is often less than $100...

Thanks.

For walking I'd do South Beach boardwalk between 7th to 25th St, and Lincoln Road. Do not eat on Ocean Drive, tourist traps.

PAMM (museum) has excellent views.

If weather's nice, Wynwood Yard has some good in-character food truck options and one sit down.

Design District is good for window shopping walking.

Re: Home Theater vs. Soundbar

Once you setup a component stereo, you're done. You don't need to keep fooling around with things. So I don't see what the time issue is.

But, you can 'sample' the soundbar experience right now at no cost, by putting all of your component speakers in a row in front of your TV.

Otherwise, you've hit the pros and cons. Not sure what other advice there is to give. If there are no external limitations, I personally would never consider a soundbar for a primary entertainment system.

I love Broker's in a Martini, but have made great Martini's with Tanqueray and Beefeater. I'm not precious about gin, but I do not prefer Hendrick's or Plymouth (too mild). Hendrick's usually only sees tonic for me.

I go back and forth on olives vs lemon twist. "Dirty" for me is a single spoon of juice.

Usually 1:3 to 1:4.

Always stirred, strained into a coupe from the freezer.

I'll often do a single drop of Regan's into the finished product.

Always in flux this one, hard to repeat a perfect Martini, I'll get there some day! I find it to be the most challenging of drinks.

Virgils is hardly an alternative to Peter Lugars. While there are numerous other good steakhouses around, and I'm not going to recommend any because they're all the same, Virgils is basically an Applebee's that does BBQ. It's for tourists. Peter Lugars is a good steak, but the bigger reason to go for most is for future name-dropping.

Only steel cut oatmeal is worthy of consumption. I just buy the bulk stuff at the grocery. I do 3:1 or 4:1 water. Only takes 30 min. I get it started when I wake up, bring to boil, let med-low simmer, it's done by the time I'm dressed in the morning. Or make it the night ahead of time. Drizzle maple syrup and banana, yogurt, smoothies, anything to taste if you want sweet. 1/3 c oats is a good amount for 1 serving.

I'm also surprised no one mentioned Tesla S, as this was heavily reported in the news recently as being the safest car ever tested.

NHTSA rates it 5 stars in every category, something only 1% of tested cars achieve. The Tesla even famously broke the test equipment.

Re: Apple Airport Extreme vs Express as Range Extender

What model numbers? There are many versions.

Chances are it won't make much of a difference. When you extend wirelessly, you automatically take a 50% speed penalty right off the bat on devices that connect through the extender. Chances are both your devices are running N-spec, and you'd need to upgrade everything to AC to possibly see an improvement in speed, but even then, it would still be worse than running a hard wire to the wireless extender device.

This has a good answer: http://store.apple.com/us/question/answ ... 2KKF99Y97C\

Also, 2.4 GHz will generally have wider coverage than 5 GHz, you could try that. Though 5 GHz N or AC is best for speed.

Hi OP. I see that you've seen the light--yes, Win7 is infinitely better than XP.

I wanted to add that I've had good luck running Win7-64 on old machines--a Dell D620 and D630 laptop run it just fine (8 year old Core 2 Duo laptops). Just max your RAM (probably 4 to 8 GB), and turn all the advanced properties settings for best performance (ie don't use Aero visuals). It runs fine on those.

You have it backwards. Cable/DSL is always the limiting factor regarding bandwidth. You can verify this easily with a search. Wi-Fi is plenty fast for streaming, after all, nearly every Roku box is wi-fi only. Wireless n real world performance can be about 40 Mbps.

Keep in mind, it is not enough to simply buy an n or ac router and expect those speeds. All wi-fi routers ship to accomodate b/g/n, thus they run at the speed of the slowest connected device. Ideally you should configure your wi-fi to n or ac only, and phase out your g devices, for the best speed.

I read a lot of websites and bulletin boards (CNN, Gawker Media, Bogleheads, etc) on my iPhone 5 and I'd like a larger screen, but I dislike the brightness character of LED displays for reading. This makes me hesitant to get a tablet.

Is the Kindle web browser ready for prime-time, or does it feel slow, compromised, etc... I'm not interested in video or full browsing abilities, only text. Thanks!

Re: Options to a Bose Wave Radio

Go with Cambridge SoundWorks or Sonos. They will both allow you to stream your audio files over wi-fi.

The difference in price vs Bose will just be their marketing costs. These all-in-one devices all sound pretty much the same, because with 3" drivers it can be no other way, so no reason to pay significantly more.

Since the Cambridge version has wi-fi, you can potentially stream in your home over wi-fi, thus you don't necessarily need the more expensive Bluetooth option.

Sonos will be more expensive, but the upshot is you can buy one device, then later add more to get music everywhere, and it will all be in sync. Sonos will also have the slickest, simplest interface.

Most of the mass market stuff (Beats) is going for style and status over sound. They often have the same sort of tubby bass exaggerated treble sound, across the whole range of prices. The less expensive Grado's have a similar signature as their flagships at less cost.

I'm obviously not recommending untrained novice individuals show up and do heavy squats. For one thing, this is impossible--they are not adapted to lift anything heavy. This is what linear progression/General Adaptation is and why it is useful to understand: you start with light weights, and add weight linearly and progressively. In three months, that weight will be heavier, but now you can lift it easily, unlike on week one. The stressor was overcome and adapted to. Since this has been mentioned twice, I have to ask why one would need a spotter for an overhead press? An overhead press, in it's most traditional and useful form, standing with a barbell, does not require a spotter. This is because if the weight is too heavy, it's not going "overhead"--it will not leave your shoulders/chest. You simply put it back in the rack where you got it from. This. If something comes in a wrapper and will keep on a shelf for months, I would not eat that every day.

Love CatalogChoice. Other than DMA and that, contact each mailer directly. I have a Google Spreadsheet where I keep track of these so I make sure I don't hear from them again. Can't stand junk mail!

Re: At what age did your health start to limit your hobbies?

OP, you said the keywords: running + 39 = bad knees, back, feet. I'd abandon running as exercise of choice. It can simply be too much impact on older joints, and to me has a negative impact on strength into your later years. Muscle and bone strength is what you're fighting against into 40+, and the most effective way to keep those going is by weightlifting--and I don't mean 20# dumbell curls . Do any marathoners look strong to you? My father was an avid, competitive runner, but simply couldn't take it physically much past 45. Re: Body by Science Workout

it largely improves the neuromuscular component of strength (improved fiber recruitment, rate coding, and agonist/antagonist control). Will have to disagree again. Sitting in a chair, following the mechanics that a machine has decided for you (regardless of your own anthropomorphy) does not bring the kind of neuromuscular connections that free weight barbell training does. Imagine lifting weights and also preventing yourself from falling over, like you might find in the real world! This is not only obvious to a casual observer, but is also noted in your ACSM link: machine exercises have demonstrated less neural activation when matched for intensity for most comparisons to free-weight exercises (178). It's so easy to quote the ACSM for abou...
