Re: Cost of spider bite

I, too, doubt the diagnosis of "spider bite". The usual office visit code would be 99213( about $65 or 99214; $90) , so your $200 charge if no lab done is high. Were other matters discussed at this visit? Try some other doctor next time who will see you for 3 minutes, not be available for follow up...

Re: Sell the gas guzzler? Probably not.

My job is sending me overseas for a few months and I have the options of 1)lowering the insurance and keeping it in my garage Can't you cancel the insurance completely? You only need insurance if you are going to actually drive, right? In New York, you must surrender your plates at the DMV office, ...

My employer recently expressed an interest in evaluating other options for our 401-k provider.

Just like PiperWarrior said, I immediately directed the boss to the "Employee Fiduciary" web site as well.

There are really only two things I don't do myself. 1st - Electrical installations and repairs. Somehow I can't convince myself that reading the "Stanley Home Works" Electrician's Guide justifies me tackling this job. Besides, my buddy is a licensed electrician and all I need to do is buy him lunch ...

Residing in one of the self-proclaimed "sophisticated" portions of the country (near-NYC), I love it when I see others out-do us in providing their children with basic financial education. My daughter graduates HS next year in the top-10% of her class and would never receive any personal finance edu...

The OP may also want to check their state DMV regs for registering a diesel passenger car in their state.

New York has restrictions about registering these car because "they cause so much pollution."

I find the best source for trade-in values is a site called www.galves.com. Galves is the publisher of the books used by dealers to estimate the value of all trades. They are updated weekly and are based on auction values in your area. I was once one of the customers that showed up with my Kelly Blu...

Why do you feel it necessary to "seal" your garage floor?

If you plan to apply one of the colored epoxy finishs (or equivalent), most manufacturers of these finishs also provide a pre-application sealer.

Re: Comparisons

I think that some of the comparisons here do not actually compare "apples" to "apples". For example, the comparison of a Prius and a Corolla. The Prius has much more room than the Corolla and can comfortably seat 4 adults. I think the better comparison would be to the Camry or the Honda Accord. Whe...

Switching Out of High Expense 401-k Funds to Vanguard

I have a 401-k fund through my present employer with a balance of about $125k. It is with Diversified Investment Advisers. Judging by the "expense ratio" for each fund, I am getting killed with expenses when compared to the equivalent Vanguard fund. For example, their S&P Index fund has a 0.65% vs. ...
