I decided against any international funds. I feel the same as you; the performance is nothing special. I'm not talking just recent performance, either. They do it to confirm that you are likely to stay in the job. It is probation of a sort. Exactly. Think about it from the employer's perspective, they don't want to keep maintaining 401k accounts for years for employees who left within the first year.
