I agree with the assessment that Treasurys are all one needs -- corporates, munis, fallen angels, etc. can be avoided. However, I am of the opinion that the treasury bonds should be internationally diversified. You want sovereigns from all over the world just in case something happens to your home ...

So my issue is should I pay off the debt we have or just keep on keeping on? My thought process is that the interest is so low and the monthly payments are so low that it seems insignificant in the whole scheme of things but part of me would like to just get one or both of the smaller loans knocked...

Pfau is writing for Financial Advisors. Some Financial Advisors have an incentive to keep AUM as high as possible for as long as possible. I'm not saying that's the only takeaway from the article, but it's one point to keep in mind when reading Pfau.

We're retired and own one condo. Paid cash. I view it as a diversification of income and assets from our other investments. Not a huge percentage of our monthly cash flow, but a nice addition nonetheless.
