Most ATM's are pretty accurate, and they continue to baffle me on just how little they make mistakes, but it happened to me once. Right here at a local credit union, I withdrew money from ATM, and got a reciept saying the amount I withdrew. Like 200 dollars, only the machine never spit any money out...

So they enroll veteran eligibiity to lower rates for members in the higher tier which will never change. You never make it up to another tier. Once you are put into a tier, there is no moving around. Yes, its amazing how I have heard that Pentagon Federal was a slow moving, somewhat old fashion credit union yet they are #3 in total assets and membership. Are you sure you aren't confusing ALEGIANT or ALLIED with ALLIANT?

True, or they could be saving on building and paying high dollar rent to skim off the top. But I doubt it. Sounds like a good one. Only advantage I see is they are right up the street. Still not enough for me to want to need to join them.

Yes there are. It's kind of hard to really know which ones are the best. I suspect the bigger and more assets, the more they can provide, but this isn't always the case is it? I see Chartway didn't even make the top 100. They seem pretty sound too. Smart Financial ranks over 400 in size/assets..

What I meant by rental car benefits is that if you rent a vehicle through Enterprise, and a few selected others, you get a discount, up to 20%. This discount is via USAA membership. Credit card doesn't matter. Your member number and showing your membership card, or your discount code should suffice....

Difference. USAA refunds your atm fees as long as you don't go over some 5 withdraws I think it is per month. Which I never use atm's that much. But if you go over that amount, you pay the fees. I wonder if most people posting here are members of banks mostly. I bet they are. I can't understand why anyone would chose a bank over a credit union. My guess is they've probably never been exposed to one or can't handle the inconvenience of having limited accessibility.

Alliant is number 7 and they are state chartered. Nobody comes close in assets to NFCU. CLosest one is by almost half the assets. I can't believe Chartway doesn't even make the top 100.
