THERMAL curtains. Inexpensive. A set only $20 at Costco. Use a tension rod to hold up and then you can remove when you want. The thermal curtains keep the heat out in summer and the heat in during the winter.

Appliances that last a long time are gone, now most appliances appear to be manufactured for planned obsolescence. I would take the money for any repairs and put it towards a new fridge. Less worry and no hassle factor waiting for parts.

Mushroom compost holds water better than soil. So put in seed, sprinkle on mushroom compost, water well. Perhaps you could do that once a week. Better than dirt, and may work.

Have you tried epassportphoto.com? Free to use. Just take your own photo, size and get the correct dimensions on the website. Either print at home or send to an online print shop. Costco.com does photos and sends to you in the mail. Our family has used this many times and absolutely no rejections.

I try to recycle as much as I can. However, the new slogan in many towns is "When in doubt, Throw it out." Some towns will not accept plastic egg containers and other plastics even though the number in the triangle indicates it should be recycled.

Brick is porous. Be gentle with scrubbing. They make brick sealers for when you have completed your cleaning. You spray it on and it is very effective at sealing the brick from rain.
