Re: Buying CDs from Vanguard

I used to buy CD's by phone and got an execution within a few hours. I bought on line and now it takes sometimes a few days. I called and checked into this and they said it depends on the issue date, so not to worry. And they are executing over a few days as they said. Just not used to this method. ...

Re: Continuing Care Community versus 55 + (no LTC and modest assets)

There are a lot of variations between CCRC's and contracts. So you must do your due diligence on each one, as to what they do for you and what is included. Then you need to get comfortable that they will live up to what they promise. Some are the for profit some non profit. Are they religious based?...

Re: Continuing Care Community versus 55 + (no LTC and modest assets)

Entry fees in our area are in low to mid 6 figures depending on size of unit. Fee is much less if it a Type C contract which does not cover your health care when you need it, nor does it guarantee you a place in the assisted living or nursing sections. Type C is a fee for service when you need help....

But the opposite is that 50% will need nursing care, and if the person lives alone and does not have any daughters to look after them, then you have a different viewpoint on this.
Not everyone has the support that your family has, so we have to look at some type of CCRC facility.

Ok thanks,
I had not thought about the increase in duration, and I remember something about convexity from a few years ago, that was a bad thing, and convinced me at that time not to buy the GNMA fund.
I am not jumping into anything real soon, and will give this some more thought.

Some facilities have a 90% refund policy if you move our or die. My experience is that this does not allow you to go to assisted living or nursing at the same price.
