Re: Half Milestone Hit!

Congrats! When me and my wife were 35 we had around 300k . Now we are in our 53’s and well over two milestones ( seven figures) and pushing the third . So, now, if you invest from now on like me without investing on headline news or getting emotional during market crashes and invest most of your portfolio in equity’s I bet by the time you 53 you will have well over 3 million . So, wish you remember my word’s, ignore the noise , stay the course and remember , there’s nothing guarantee long term that beats inflation as equity’s!

I credit that documentary for inspiring me to actually learn about sound evidence-based investing and to beware of bad 401k plans and brokers like Edward Jones— I bought “The Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing” and opened an Roth IRA at vanguard and filled it with index funds because of it. I’m very glad that I was ale to watch it early in my retirement saving journey.

Re: [Silicon Valley Bank fails, FDIC takes over]

My question is why did people all of the sudden need to rush to get money out. Do they have a liquidity problem? On a day to day bases people should not need all the money. This are not individual account holders. This are business owners who need to do payrolls and pay bills asap. That’s only part of it. The accelerated collapse was due to VC backers telling companies there were problems at the bank and to move their money now. Created the classic panic for a run on the bank. I have no idea what to believe in some of the other reports I see in the more tech focused circles, but some people have indicated there were some noticeable issues leading up to this which ultimately led to the VC call to move funds. I’ve also seen reports that some...

So the bank did not have enough to satisfy normal operations of clients or they didn't have enough to cover a panic? What I can gather it started from a big investor telling people to pull money out. No sure why we are pussyfooting around on naming the "big investor." Although there may have been more than one. Bloomberg reported on Thursday, 3/9/2023 that Founders Fund, the venture capital fund co-founded by Peter Thiel, has advised companies to pull money from Silicon Valley Bank. But there was a legitimate reason, because the bank had cultivated a customer base of tech startups, who were hurt by the interest rate rise,...

I'm finding myself thinking more about moving into semi-retirement possibly in the next few years. I would like your opinions on how soon I could retire or at least semi-retire? Could I retire in 5 years, when our mortgage is paid off (as noted further below)? "Semi-Retirement", by the way, to me means either 1) mostly handing off my solo law practice to a younger attorney, and probably working part time, or 2) cutting back my work hours and just working less (this option seems less workable for a variety of reasons) or 3) the "second career" option - closing my law practice altogether and doing s...

When a door closes, if you look long enough and hard enough, if you're strong enough, you'll find a window that opens.
After23+ year’s of investing in Vanguard , after long enough time I found that window.

For us nothing new , but for new investors it’s small peace of history. I’d give a credit to young documentary maker . At least he doesn’t hype on YouTube about some new secret souse technique .

Back in 1999 when I opened my account at Vanguard I already knew that Vanguard will change financial industry. This was real democratising for regular investor unlike Robinhood-meemstock craze

I hope by the time I will consider buying EV I would have an option to charge from my phone.

Lol, are you going retire this year or next? Why everyone fixated on what’s happening now and making decisions on how to and when invest in Roth IRA ? You jus answered on your question yourself , you are 44. I was and is dollar cost averaging for more than 23 years into my Roth IRA regardless what’s going on on a given moment.. I am 53.

So, it depends why you need this money to keep liquid for a year , there are many other ways to invest but for much longer with more risk.
1yr tbill 4.8% (better than MMF) plus no state tax
You are right, read everything I’ve read .

Re: "Cash is no longer trash" says Dalio

question of today “ should I keep all my money in money market with 4% returns “ vs question of yesterday “ when to enter in stock market , I missed stock market recovery 20% since October “
Meanwhile, fund of “ legendary investor “ Ray Dalio 10 year performance only approximately 5% vs VTI around 12% . Do I care what Dalio say? Mneh
