I wouldn’t surprise if it was coming from Suze Orman or Ric Edelman or some other annuity sailsmen, not from those guy’s . Accusations were not only regarding small cap value tilting , way more than that .

There are many ongoing threads about SCV now. Most of them are locked because no one can have a nuanced discussion.

It’s getting ugly out here.
Just finished listening one of my best in my opinion talking show’s “Talking Real Money “ with Don and Tom. Honestly, a little bit annoying to listening bushings Rick Ferry by Tom Macdonald. I don’t know, man , not nice to accuse Rick this way just because he doesn’t agree regarding small cap value tilting. Makes me to listen less that show.

You are very heavy in tax deferred accounts. You should contribute much more into tax free accounts Roth IRA’s and taxable accounts. I should not consider paying off mortgage at this low rate.any mortgage under 4% is free money in my opinion. I personally struggle with this too having roughly 50% in tax deferred, 25% in Roth vehicles & 25% in taxable. Like the OP I’m within 5 or so years of stopping work. I struggle with not feeling like I’ll have enough in my 50s during retirement and too much post 60/65. I’m reminded by the experts here of Roth conversions to fund early retirement, ability to withdraw Roth contributions etc. also, importantly, managing (keeping low) your taxable income from dividends/cap gains etc to qualify for ACA/...

Now you’ve got all answers:
1. No, it’s too volatile
2. Why not , lump sum
3. Just dollar cost average and you’ll be ok with it.
4.Just buy IBonds or go 10 year Treasury.
My ten in a half cent’s: if you think 10 year is a long term , you should start reading Jack Bogles books first and stop listening news , period. Also, there’s no right answer for you , even on this forum until you do the homework by yourself first by understanding what long term means and how market volatility doesn’t mean anything when it comes to real long term investing and how market timing and impulse decisions just is not your friends.
Good luck . Ed.
