Re: Going after 'monster' dividends

A large dividend means that investors have more confidence than non-investors. The larger the dividend, the more lonely the confident ones are. Doesn't mean they are wrong, just that few people agree with them. I've invested in unpopular companies, but if I'm going to disagree with the consensus, I ...

Re: Inflation; Total Bond Market; GNMAs; and TIPS

If I understand correctly, gold does well when the level of fear is increasing. Bonds do well when interest rates are falling. Does that sound generally right?

Re: 8 Reasons to Avoid Whole Life Insurance

Conservative, yes, but missing one vital component - it's not FDIC insured.. My understanding is that the state where the insurance company is headquartered usually (always?) administers the receivership of failed insurers. Doesn't a state guaranty association indemnify policy holders? Is that not ...

No problem. Why do you word it that way?
Apparently service has been restored now. It may not have been offline for very long, and perhaps not for everyone.

Re: Vanguard.com offline

Interesting. Were you able to get to your account? I tried just now and it said "Internal Server Error." Anyone else?

Cost basis is not reported on monthly statements. I'm looking at the live unrealized gain/loss screen in my brokerage account.

Conventional wisdom is 15-30%, so 25 is right in there. The percentage depends on what timeframe. But my real question is how much they beat/trail the market. Just pass/fail is not enough information.

Cost basis info wrong on Vanguard site

I had a position of 2,900 shares in a stock and I recently sold 1,900 shares. The leaves me with 1,000 shares. On the Vangaurd website, it shows the shares correctly iny my account, however the cost basis information is not correct. The cost basis section of the Vanguard website still shows me havin...
