Re: Schwab Brokerage + Checking: A Good Idea?

As I move into semi-retirement this year, I'm thinking about consolidating my financial accounts. In particular, I'm looking at leaving USAA FSB (30+ years customer) for my banking needs, opening a Schwab Brokerage + Checking account, and moving the 7-figure balance from my Vanguard Taxable account to Schwab. I'll move my military pension direct deposit to the new account, and my pay from working intermittent hospital shifts will go there as well. I'll still maintain a Roth IRA with Vanguard, as well as my TSP G-fund and Treasury Direct accounts. My reasons for doing so are the last real benefit from USAA FSB disappeared last month when the 2.5% cash back Visa was discontinued. I plan to increase my travel this year and for the foreseeable...

Re: Change residence from Minnesota to Florida

Once you own a home, file for homestead exemption with your local tax collector. You have to own the home by 1 Jan and file by March I believe. This will give you a tax break on the first 25k of property taxes. Recommend researching it.

Re: Where should I move to from Vanguard?

Not to hijack the conversation here but i have a Schwab question.

I've been with Fido for nearly 30 years and no regrets there at al. I had a small amount at VG and decided to move that over to Schwab.
The big difference i have noticed with my deposits into Fido and Schwab, deposits into Schwab take 24-48 hours before the money arrives and you can buy a fund, Fido is almost instantly. Is this common with Schwab clients?

Re: Move from Fidelity Brokerage to IRA without one day lag/fluctuation?

FZROX will only sell after the market closes so you wont be able to make another purchase until the next day after the market opens. If you are purchasing FZROX then it wont buy until after the market closes, therefore you have that 1 day lag. The move to the IRA happens instantly once you hit the transfer button.

I believe it's the Music only package.
My 5.99 / 12 months expired this month and I chatted online and they offered me another 5.99 /12 months for music and entertainment.

I've been in Fundrise for 6+ years, my growth portfolio gained 7.3% YTD and income portfolio 6.4% YTD. The IPO, which isn't liquid, is up 32.4 YTD Assuming you are invested in the Fundrise Income Fund? They merged all income funds. Are you also investing in the Fundrise Flagship Interval Fund? That is a solid 1-2 punch. Best. Tony Thats correct, the Income eREIT Merged into Income Real Estate Fund and all the west coast, east coast heartland are merged into a growth fund. I really didnt pay much attention to the mergers, I just set it and forget it after my initial investment in 2016 and only log in once a month to get my balance. Dividends have come like clockwork every quarter as expected so really no complaints. Not until just this mont...

Re: Betterment hoses young/small investors

Since all the major brokerages have free trades on ETFs and otherwise no fees, I advised my children to use Fidelity or Vanguard. It turns out as they finished college and got jobs that their employers use Fidelity as 401(k) custodians, so they already were a step ahead and didn't have to make any changes. Moral of story: Don't always grab shiny new things. Feels a bit unfair to call a 14 year old company that was rated for many years by most major publications as the top robo-advisor a "shiny new thing". Honestly zero-fee trades are a shinier, newer thing than robo-advisors. I will be trying to get her signed up at a more traditional broker now, somewhere. I do not dislike the general idea of a robo-advisor, but the fact they ca...

Re: Bought $2000 worth of 5 year TIPs. Was charged $2029.

That was my trade on Fidelity as well. Description UNITED STATES TREAS NTS SER AE-2027 1.62500% 10/15/2027 Shares + 2,000.000 Price 100.5559 Amount -$2,029.52 Interest $6.82 Settlement Date 12/30/2022 Notice that you purchased at $100.5559 rather than at par ($100). That gets you to $2,011.118. I don't know if the $6.82 should be added to the $2,011.118 or subtracted from it :-) Do you know if you were charged a commission? I was posting to OP that we both were charged $2029 on Vanguard and Fidelity. This was the first time I purchased a TIPS so it was basically an experiment for me. There was no commission charged from Fidelity....at least not one I can see. I'm assuming due to the TIPS being a reopen is why that price was 100.55?!?

I funded mine and my wife on 11/30, haven't received the 100.00 yet. I'll give it the full 25 days until I call. I funded my daughters teen account and got the 50.00 bonus within a few days.

Re: Contemplating putting in a pool - thoughts based on our current financial situation?

I live in Florida, and put a 13k gallon salt water pool / hot tub combo in 7 years ago for approx 55k. I paid cash as I didn't want a 10 year loan on the pool. Also in Florida, they put liens on your house while they are building, and until they get their money back. Both those reasons are why I paid cash for it. The pools here now are running 60-65k and are taking a year or more to complete. Mine took 4 months. I have two kids 14/9 now and we hardly ever user the pool or hot tub. Maybe 2-3 times a year. I keep saying I wish i could just pour dirt over it and call it a day. We have to take water in weekly or bi-weekly for water test. The cost of putting in chemicals and supplies can start to add up over time. The time it takes to clean and ...

Re: Treasury direct I bonds and interest

Hello From the front page, click on the blue link that says Saving Bonds on the bottom of the page, then click on the radial button on the bottom of the page that says I bonds and submit. That will show you the interest on each bond. The interest is added at the beginning of each month once the bond turns 4 months old. The first 3-months is considered "forfeited" until the bond turns 5 years old. My April bonds got their first interest added 1 Aug. My May bonds will get their first interest 1 Sep. Thanks for this, I've been curious. Is it the first 3 months that's forfeited or the most recent 3 months? Yes, you are correct, it is the three months of most recent interest. So right now would not be a good time to cash in.

Re: Treasury bill price discrepancy?

I asked that same question on Twitter last week and pretty much told I was wrong and I didn't purchase the right week so I just let it go. I did a 4 week today and was charged 99.809 as well. I'l be paying attention to the real experts for a good explanation. You were charged 99.809 only? My case is that I was charged 99.833, but the current value is only 99.809 now. I have a theory now: perhaps 99.833 is the auction result price which I paid. Since treasury bill prices move around, 99.809 is the price on the secondary market AFTER the initial auction this morning. Does it make sense? Opps, sorry I was charged same as you, but now it shows 99.80. UNITED STATES TREAS BILLS ZERO CPN 0.00000% 08/30/2022 Shares + 10,000.000 Price 99.8336 Amoun...

I just returned after 10 days, turned the AC to 83 and left the key with a neighbor. I have a ring camera in my house that I monitored but I have never in all my years even thought about turning the water off...HMMM
