Did you not realize that high inflation was a possibility when you constructed your portfolio? I think you're probably responsible for all of it. Unless I misunderstand how mortgages and HELOCs are structured... You're both responsible for the whole amount. If DH dies, disappears in a foreign country, decides to just sit at home and play video games and eat twinkies, whatever, there's a lot of serious legal maneuvering to only have you pay back 'your half' and be in the clear.stanford73 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 9:48 am Thanks--that's very helpful. The HELOC is maxed out--$80k all withdrawn without my knowledge or approval. And, yet, I'm responsible for half that debt now.

The documents like that have to be harsh sounding.
1: They want you to react ASAP.
2: If you are a deadbeat, they have to be legally firm with you.
I had one of those once when they rental manager company deposited my check in their mortgage good-faith account. In the end they sent me a "everything's ok, sorry for the bother" letter with a $20 stapled to it.
Oh yeah: That's probably an OR, not and AND.
They can't make you pay this month's full rent AND kick you out on the 11th when you just paid for the full month.
Pay now, or get out. Not: Pay now and get out.

I had the birthmark (slightly darker skin) on my back outlined in black. It was inspired by my artistic method of using the flaws inherent in the medium. Got it done by Arbuckle, THE tattooist of Cedar Rapids, IA at the time . I was once slowly riding my bike next to my partner who accidentally maneuvered me into a brick wall with a 2" long 1/4" copper pipe sticking out of it that I hit the front of my shoulder on. It gave me a nearly perfectly square bruise on that shoulder. For the next couple weeks whenever I'd see it in the mirror, it would look like some sort of sci-fi military insignia. So I gave myself a promotion by getting it inked on the front and back of both shoulders. Or I've have it up to *here*. Or maybe I'm having ...

Re: Anyone ever heard of an unsolicited retroactive pay raise?
Yeah, when my large project team was dispersed through the rest of the large tech company, there was a lot of balancing that happened. A good part of it was because one of the key previous hiring managers was too good at hiring people below what they should have been making. There was also just some general balancing across different project groups. I'd fought hard for my team to get some big steps up in that review/reward cycle which was mostly completed before news of shifting the employees around. I then got to tell them things like "here's a mid 4-figure annual pay raise that you earned and I pushed hard to make happen" followed by putting a sugar coating on "and since you've been dramatically underpaid for the past 6 yea...

Two others, Apple and Alphabet, have lost nearly 20%, on the cusp of what’s generally defined as bear-market territory. In the last six weeks, the FAANGs combined have lost $728 billion in market value.
I don't think that's how that works.

Wow, a recession is coming within a very specific number of months. 24 to be exact. Sounds so much better to say 24 months rather than 2 years. Adds to the quality of the argument.
Let see, 2 years before...that's like calling the July 1990 recession in July 1988. Calling March 2001 in March 1999. Calling December 2007 in December 2005. Not sure I'd want to miss out on all those 2 year chunks of the market.

A lot of companies at least in my industry and geography (Silicon Valley) appear to be transitioning to an flexible vacation policy (often incorrectly called “unlimited” vacation). Nothing gets accrued, nothing gets paid out when the employee leaves. Yeah, I saw a lot of them doing it starting ~2007. As layoffs were beginning/contemplated, management suddenly woke-up to all that accrued vacation time on the books. Adobe started with quarterly week-long shutdowns for a year or two that burnt off accrued vacation time (or you went unpaid during the shutdown) and once they'd gotten the books clear switched to the no-accrual, not tracked by HR system. I think the formal policy was something like "you get two or three weeks, talk to your m...
