Re: dementia, POA, credit freezes, and IRS tax return PIN - what am I getting into?

Best wishes for what you are going to need to deal with. At some point you may need to become a legal guardian or conservator, every state is different. We went to an attorney that specializes in "elder care" and got some great advice and help with developing a plan. Money well spent and not all tha...

Re: Check engine light. Toyota Avalon 2006, 155K miles [safety issue?]

The common cause for an engine light on a Toyota in my experience as a long time owner is something emissions related, like Oxygen (O2) Sensor needs replacing. I've driven months with that light on. Most reputable repair shops will read the code and tell you if it's something safety related, the aut...

Re: 65 and 63 year old - retirement question (non-investment)

My dad is planning on continuing to work until 70 so he can collect his full SS benefit He would most likely get close to the same amount even if he stops working now and delays applying for Social Security until he is 70. It's based on something like the top 35 years of earnings so continuing to w...

Re: Need advice - Employer withdrew accepted offer

I would move on, not worth the trouble to deal with folks like that IMO. If she feels strongly at most an email to the hiring managers boss or the owner/CEO with a copy of the offer and how they then backed out might be worth the effort. The reality is the world has lots of dysfunctional work places...

Re: USAA - online bill payment issues - anyone else?

I have not experienced any problems or lag. Are you using the mobile version on a tablet/phone, I have had less than an optimal experience with those but it has always worked? If you look at their FAQ's you will see browser recommendations. Hope it gets resolved, best of luck.

Re: Mini-split air conditioner

As far as resale, a Mini-split would not add a lot of value IMO. Most home buyers expect a home that has adequate HVAC and are not going to pay a premium for it. For some a mini-split might be a negative due to the increased electrical bill. You stated you have lived in the home 20 years, have you h...

I have over time tried most of the other ones mentioned but from your list of requirements (and mine) Workflowy is my go to "to do" list.

Re: Home Siding Options

+ Hardie, Colorplus we also have it and like it. Go to the James Hardy web site and find lots of information on installation. Our experience with contractors is that some did not want to to use the per-painted (colorplus) option but IMO it was because it requires a certain amount of experience to ge...

Re: Tractor for my 12 Acre Horse Farm

Dealer support and distance was the deciding factor for me. Unless your also buying a trailer, someone to come out and do repairs when it's out of your comfort zone may be a factor. It's the attachments that make the tractor, the more the better. Go and visit mytractorforum.com

Re: Graduate Degree before Military Retirement

1. Does an MBA from a non-top tier school really matter that much anymore to employers? No, I don't believe it does. 2. If you were an employer (as I imagine many of you are), would a retired officer with a Masters in Operations Management appeal to you? I'm not an employer but I have been a hiring ...

Re: legal issues with installing work software on home compu

IMO - I don't think you have any more of a legal issue with the soft token than you would have with the use of the hard token (physical key). Lots of companies require the soft tokens in order to work from home. You may be able to get a lot more opinions and some real expert advice from a forum like...

Re: Setting up a Website

I have had great success with Wordpress. Not so much with the hosting recommendations, some of the hosting sites mentioned are all owned by one company, Endurance International (EIG) owns about 30+ brand names. For independent reviews I recommend webhostingtalk.com (WHT). If you search for hosts on ...

I run and bike. After 25 years in the Military I did a stupid thing and stopped running. After 3 years and 30 pounds I started again. That was 8 years ago and I've finished a Marathon, a couple of half's and a 10 miler this year. It's the best stress relief I know. I really like early morning (5:30 ...
