Is there any way to convert a deductible IRA to 'backdoor' Roth IRA?
The topic title more or less says it all.....is there any way to use the "backdoor IRA process or technique" to convert a deductible (traditional) IRA to a Roth IRA? Almost all of the advice and commentary that I read on this technique seems to approach it from the standpoint of funding a non-deductible, traditional, IRA and then converting those funds to a Roth IRA. That doesn't work for me, as I have no qualifying income, I.e., "earned income," to use to fund the non-deductible IRA portion of the equation.....all of my income is from "non-earned" sources, i.e., pensions, social security, interest, dividends, etc. I do have a significant-sized, deductible, traditional, IRA and am presently withdrawing RMDs fro...

Electric vehicles probably will dominate the future, but that "future" may well be much further off than many think. Check out the electric vehicle projections of the U. S. Energy Information Administration....their forecasts are sobering to say the least.

Re: Why does Warren Buffett recommend ...
Buffett favors equities over fixed income instruments. I've always thought that the 2011 B-H annual report/Buffett "letter," (page 17) sums up his thoughts rather well: "Investments that are denominated in a given currency include money-market funds, bonds, mortgages, bank deposits, and other instruments. Most of these currency-based investments are thought of as “safe.” In truth they are among the most dangerous of assets. Their beta may be zero, but their risk is huge. Over the past century these instruments have destroyed the purchasing power of investors in many countries, even as the holders continued to receive timely payments of interest and principal. This ugly result, moreover, will forever recur. Governments determi...

With kids, I'd pick Yellowstone over London. That said, staying in West Yellowstone and using that as a 'base,' is not only less expensive, but provides greater variety than staying right in the park. Depending upon which direction you are coming from/leaving towards, a night (or two) in the likes of Jackson Hole, Cody, Gardiner, etc. might be good options as well.

The buy out is a no-brainer, however, be advised that you are also going to have to pay sales tax, etc., on the purchase.
If you don't want to keep the vehicle after purchasing it, it's an easy flip to sell it to the likes of CarMax, Carvanna, AutoNation, etc.-----in fact, you can to online right now and see what some of these firms will offer you for the vehicle. Another option----should you want a new vehicle-----is to use it as a trade to a dealer, in directly, reducing the sales tax paid on/for a new vehicle.

When I think of GMO, I can't help but think back to about 7 or 8 years ago------and I'll bet several of you will remember this------when Jeremy Grantham was pushing timber as the asset class with some of the best future growth prospects.
Well, what happens? It's not more than a couple of years later and GMO quietly dumps all of their timber holdings off to an outfit by the name of the Rohatyn Group. Suffice it to say, so much for GMO's "prognostications."

Hmm......we had a couple of different rural construction crews that used gas-fueled Honda EB6500 generators for site power. Granted, we made sure the units were maintained, but they operated 40-50 hours a week, nearly every week of the year (probably a minimum of 2,000 a year) and they would run 3 and even 4 years before we replaced them. Ergo----6,000 to 8,000+ hours of use prior to replacement.

Both our parents have "nice" furniture that I'm sure was expensive to buy, but has lasted decades and still looks great. One huge problem is that furniture is a lot different now and even stores that market themself as being higher end have really dropped their level of quality and most of it is imported from whatever country will make it at the lowest cost. There is nothing inherently wrong with furniture because it is imported but a lot of it is being built overseas just because of cost and they will cut a lot of corners to keep the cost low. The cost and availability of good quality wood is also a lot different now so that makes it harder to make good traditional furniture even if you wanted to. Even if you went to the same st...
