Backdoor Roth and RMD
I would like to move TIRA assets to my Roth. Trying to figure out
how to coordinate with my RMDs. I usually do them late in the year
and want to do the rollover sooner.
Can I just pay tax on the transfer and do the rmd later?

Didn't know there was a difference. Both of my banks gave me a debit card that I only use to access account.cowdoguote wrote:

[q Because there was an overall gain on the sale, if you had used average basis rather than a cost basis, then there would not have been a wash sale.

That was my thinking in my original post.At my age, I'm simply liquidating index funds and don't need more complications.
For the time being, I'll keep my cost basis not planning on more puchases.

Re: Specific ID Question
If I sell my total fund balance that has short term losses in specific id, will that affect furure transactions? I'm thinking that I should switch to avg cost befor selling. Does this make sense? To answer the second question first, no it doesn't make sense. Specific ID is almost always superior to average cost. Notably, if you switch to average cost and then sell, you will lock yourself into using average cost until all shares of that mutual fund which you own are sold. On your first question, there are two ways it could affect future transactions. First, if you sell at a loss, you create the potential for wash sales if you rebuy that same fund within a 60-ish day window around the date of the sale which created the loss. Secondly, your t...

From reading earlier post on TLH, I could have a major problem.
I hold comparable funds in taxable, Ira,&Roth. If I understand-selling
at a loss in the identical fund in another account, My loss could be disallowed.

So-do I just disregard the wash sale and simply report the difference between cost basis and proceeds?

Wife and I are below taxable threshhold if our total estate is split 50-50.
However, it just occurred to me that the largest asset is my IRA account
with wife beneficiary.
Is that considered community prop? We would be over the 2.2M if it's not deductible?
Am I making any sense?

It is common for tier 1 and tier 2 drugs to not be subject to the deductible so that's one possibility and even if they are not many generics cost the insurance company less than 20.00 so the deductible doesn't come in to play.
