Re: Vanguard security codes via Google Voice
Just a warning to anyone using Google Voice. My wife had her Google Voice number removed by Google. No warning from Google at all. In the past they used to send an email reminder to use the number within 30 days or lose it but this time she never got a reminder to use it and also no notification that the phone number was removed until time came to try to use it and it was gone, can’t get it back either.
I have since replaced all Google Voice phone numbers on our accounts with something else.

Sell $3,000 of VTSAX to buy your new REIT mutual fund. You can then immediately sell part of your REIT fund because the $3,000 minimum only applies to the initial purchase. If you want to fund the REIT in the next 30 days you can use automatic investment scheduling.

If transaction fee is $20 to buy PSLDX and my annual contributions to Roth IRA are $7500, is there a way to find out what is the optimum amount to buy? Right now Roth IRA contributions are going in every week into a Vanguard Target Date Fund. Does every $6,000 seem too low, every $7,500 seem about right, or maybe every $20,000?

401K expenses went down this year
My work 401K net asset fee went from 1.17% to 0.67% at the beginning of the year. Still a bit on the high side but this is now a lot more reasonable. Currently investing 9% of income into 401k as it drops me down from 22% to 12% tax bracket. I could increase my contributions up to 23% but have instead been investing HSA money into Fidelity and saving medical receipts until I retire. Is this 401k fee low enough now to make it worth investing more into or is my HSA investing strategy and saving receipts a better approach?

I use two boxes. One box for scanned receipts and one box for not scanned. Once a year I scan with my phone to Google photos all the not scanned receipts. This creates two backups, one on my phone and one into Google cloud stored photos. I then dump the receipts into scanned box. In about 20 years I plan to reimburse myself with these receipts.

Up your traditional 401k contributions if you can to bring down your marginal tax rate from 22% to 12%. My 401k has high fees but it’s still worth it for me to get down to the 12% tax rate.

You already got most of the benefit of your HSA account from the initial tax deduction on the contribution. I would prioritize your Roth contribution by taking money out of the HSA to fund the Roth with $6,000 for the year.

Re: Best Investment Options for HSA Funds
I believe a total international index fund like Fidelity Total International Index Fund, FTIHX, to be the best fund for an HSA account. The reason is because international funds pays foreign taxes on dividend distributions, so we get hit with just one tax drag holding it in an HSA account. If we tried to hold international in a Roth IRA we get two tax hits, one going in from taxable income and one from foreign taxes on dividend distributions. Holding international in a 401K also gets two tax hits, one going out as taxable income and one from foreign taxes on dividend distributions.

Created treasurydirect account today and noticed the max password appears to be 16 characters but is not mentioned anywhere on the site and just shows 8 character minimum length, but you won’t know you reached the max limit when typing because it is hidden with * symbols. I really like the automatic scheduled purchase of a weekly amount, going to DCA into this for the next 5 years every week. Note that all I Bond purchases are backdated to the first of the month, and each purchase has to be managed forevermore as its own lot within TreasuryDirect, so there is negligible upside and moderate downside to scheduling recurring purchases weekly instead of, say, monthly. Cash comes in every week for me so the sooner I can’t touch it the better.

Fidelity HSA accounts do not charge fees based on account balances unless you are using Fidelity Go which provides discretionary investment management for a fee.
The very small list of Fidelity recommended HSA funds is just that, funds to consider, and I would ignore them all and go for a total stock market fund like FSKAS or FZROX and there are no other fees involved purchasing and holding these funds other than their normal expense ratios.

We went through this ourselves with a broken toilet seal on the second floor that leaked through below into garage. You need to get your insurance company involved. The plumber cost is not reimbursable by insurance. However, the cost to remove all the drywall, dehumidify, and rip up the flooring is, along with reinstalling everything back with new materials. Expect your insurance to take a hit and go up 10% for filing a water claim, ours did.
