My overall portfolio is down from January, but up on the year yet. I was at 5.7% up end of January, now still up at 4.8%. I respect you posting your ideas and results and look forward to seeing how it goes. Hopefully you will do well and it will spark stimulating discussions. But you must be built ...

Thank you all so much for the advice. Lock down a property for small down payment, utilize a mortgage, improve the property, re-assess and refinance taking cash out, use cash as down payment on next property. Rinse and repeat. Some determine they only need one or two rental properties, so they buy ...

Re: Tracking my ARK / Bitcoin - non-Boglehead portfolio
The projected return hinges greatly on what “substantially”means. If the OP means around a 50% return for that event, then averaged return would barely be double digit. Seems like a lot of erroneous precise hand waving for a mediocre investment. I guess what I was thinking as "substantially&qu...

Essentially the risk analysis I'm doing on crypto is this. There is a 2% chance I lose 100% of what I invest in Cryptocurrency. There is a 25% chance that end of year price is half the price at the start of 2020. There is a 30% chance crypto stays stagnant in the range in which I purchase. 0% retur...

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read and leave advice. For years I have wanted to get into the real estate investing game. But then what is changing on a daily basis that causes major changes.

Re: Buying Lottery Tickets: Playing Devil's Advocate
Any theory on investing I would think would depend on risk vs reward as well as information on opportunity cost. People like the lottery because it's their chance to be a millionaire when at the end of the month they only have $27 in their wallet at no retirement. If they have no lottery ticket, the...

IMO it's strange to own both S&P and ARK because it's like simultaneously saying you don't know what will outperform (so own S&P) and you do know tech will outperform (so own ARK). You either know or you don't. Also it's futile to hold ARK short term because you won't know when to switch to...

I would think it would almost be hypocritical to invest a company's money into bitcoin if you personally didn't have skin in the game yourself. My "strategy" is to buy the stocks of companies whose products I enjoy using. Then, never sell. Had I bought AAPL when I bought my first Mac, I'd be on Easy Street today. However, it also would have tested my patience by significantly underperforming the market for a few periods in time. ...

What about the fact that ETFs can’t close? What if ARKK becomes a $100B or $200B etf? I seriously don’t see any way to manage that much money given her strategy and keep such returns. I’m quite skeptical at $50B. I feel not being able to close the ETF is a major disadvantage. That's actually a good...
