California versus other state 529

Hi all, We currently have our child's 529 in CCFAX but I really don't like the ER (0.91%) that it charges. I live in CA. I called Vanguard and they have 529 in NV, CO, NY, MO, and IA for a much lower ER. - Should I transfer what we have in CCFAX over to a Vanguard 529 plan? - Should I keep what we h...

Advice on what funds to put my 401k and DC plan in

Hi guys! I wanted to see if the funds I'm putting to my retirement at work is appropriate or if you think I should redistribute where I'm putting my money. I max out both my Roth 401k (no match) and DC plan (Keough) every year. I'm 42 yrs old, originally figured I would retire at 65yo, but now wonde...

Re: Help switching my actively managed funds to Vanguard

The following is not advice; it's more of a "stream of consciousness" exploration of options... I [...] have about $700k invested with my financial advisor (at LPL financial) [...] However, my investments with him is now larger since selling some property and he now charges 1%.[...] Shoul...

Re: Help switching my actively managed funds to Vanguard

Thanks Paul! Yes as I was learning more through reading investment books recently, and comparing what is recommended to what I actually have; I wasn't sure how to make sense of what my advisor recommended. It did seem more complex than it needed to be and did not seem as tax efficient as it could be...

Re: Help switching my actively managed funds to Vanguard

Thanks! I'm planning on contacting Vanguard to see about transferring what I can from my current advisor to them. I've edited my original post to include my current investments. If anyone has advice on how best to transfer these over, I would be so appreciative.

Re: Help switching my actively managed funds to Vanguard

Thank you so much for the replies! This is all very helpful! Should I be trying to transfer to Vanguard or Fidelity? Those seem like the two most mentioned in the books I've read.

Help switching my actively managed funds to Vanguard

Hello everyone! I’ve been reading several books on financial planning/investing recently and it led me to the bogleheads website. I’m in my early 40s and have a spouse who stays at home. My job has a 401k (with a Roth 401 option), a defined contribution plan (Keough), and a defined benefit plan. I a...
