I'd get the new. And if you can pay cash then you can likely afford the 'luxury'. The only Sienna I ever had (2004) was a lemon. The youngest of my 4 kids is 23. No way I am giving up my Odyssey!! Like ever!

Costco here too. The interesting thing is that as gas prices have gone up the percent difference in cost between stations in my area has dropped as Costco is usually about 40 cents a gallon cheaper regardless of the actual price. I still have a picture on my phone of the Costco price sign from the end of March 2020 when they were almost giving the stuff away. Will keep it for the grandkids. Hopefully they will be asking 'what's gas?'.

Re: Permanent Insurance for Doc Making 1.2 million/year

These insurance threads make me wonder why medical schools don’t have a required short course in finance. I think the NFL and NBA (or perhaps it’s the unions) sit the players down and try to teach them not to be victimized by predators; why not doctors? My local med school does have a series of finance sessions. I attended now and then to see what was being delivered. The sessions were very informative and were led by an MD with an MBA which they saw as a qualification and to a degree I suppose it was. The initial sessions were about basic budgeting, banking, student loans, lines of credit and that sort of thing and then progressing to more advanced topics including lifestyle creep, practice management and retirement planning. They were th...

Re: Gardening 2021

Just nipping on 7a here and have a good micro-climate. Very dry and pretty warm spring so well ahead of schedule. Four yards of soil in gardens and lawn and got 2 more today. 2000 sq feet of sod coming on Friday to replace a spot that the grubs got last year. Reseeded some other areas. 4 yards of mulch into the gardens. Crocuses and early bulbs long gone, daffs still hanging in, tulips getting going. Grape hyacinth smell amazing. Still some forsythia out and DD brought in some cuttings today. Last year, COVID played havoc with bedding plants so I am growing 8 flats of gazania from seed along with a couple of other annuals. Also trying some echinacae from seed. All coming along although the echinacae is slow to get going although my only ref...

To me nothing looks worse than this combination. In a basement I recently did PVC moulding. Easy to install and forgiving of less than level and square surfaces. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Made-Rite-9-16-in-x-3-1-4-in-x-92-in-SnapBoard-Coronado-White-PVC-Baseboards-6-pcs-box-92-in-25-clips-SOB96B6C/310226747 The PVC molding looks interesting. I guess hook installation can be tricky if the floor is not perfectly level or the wall not perfectly straight. TravelforFun +1 I looked at the link and thought the same thing. Most drywall work has a gentle rise over the joints and so forth. Nailing base molding in with a finish air nailer helps it conform to the wall and reduce gaps that have to be caulked up more than usual. The product is interes...

I think the tie-breaker is the Cross Climate 2 is indicated as very good in the snow. Considering the snow situation where I live (on the edge of the snow belt) it seems that is the one I should choose.
This is the conclusion that I have come to as well and am transitioning to CrossClimate 2 on all of our vehicles as they need new tires and ditching the snow tires. This was originally based on Consumer Reports ratings but he Tire Rack ratings are just as exemplary so reinforce the decision.

I put Michelin CrossClimate+ (or now CrossClimate 2) tires from Costco on my mom's car last time it needed new tires and plan to transition our cars to these tires as well now that we are retired and have no need to drive in blizzards. All-season that is rated pretty much the same as a snow tire on everything but glare ice and wears well. Won't have to do the bi-annual tire swap. Our Lexus RX350 is in need for new tires and our research to date indicates the Michelin CrossClimate2 is near the top of the list. I'd be interested in your feedback now that you (or your Mom) have been using the tires for some time. We have mounted snow tires and intend to continue to swap them bi-annually. My first car was a 1986 Honda Prelude Special Edition which had a beautiful velour interior but after that I had leather forever until I got rid of the kids and now for the first time leather doesn't seem so necessary. Agree that cloth doesn't get as hot or cold which is nice in our climate. I can totally do without a sunroof too so for that kind of savings put me down for cloth.

Eyesight is an excellent system. We bought an Impreza 18 months ago and have enjoyed it and as a bonus the kids have backed into or bumped into absolutely nothing in it which is fabulous. DW liked the CrossTrek more and I would have gone for it but it was $2500 more for pretty much the same vehicle. Possibly a CrossTrek or Outback when time for the Odyssey to shuffle off.

We've done longer trips with that number in Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. Depends on the amount of gear - you can go with a roof cargo holder if needed. In our experience, large SUV's can't match the room behind the mini-van's rear seats for storage.

Sorry to hear of the possible issue with the baby. Hopefully will turn out to be a false alarm or an isolated small defect. It is more likely that your wife's Ob is just more comfortable referring to a Pediatric Cardiologist that is a known quantity that has provided reliable information in the past and is integrated with the rest of the local team of caregivers. If you prefer to go to another Children's hospital and another Pediatric Cardiologist for the consultation and imaging then that should be up to you and your wife. Also have all of the cards and notes given to me by patients and learners over the years so I would agree with this. I am not a drinker so all of the alcohol I ever got immediately went to hospital and clinic staff so I was popular on that front. An occasional bottle of wine came home for DW. One of the local docs (also a non-drinker) donated all of his bottles to the silent auctions of the school our children attended. My vote would be for baked goods and a nice heart felt note in a card.

From a financial point of view, those two eras seem like two roller coaster rides. 2020 was a "kiddie" roller coaster. We took a "down" for a short period of time, then pulled back up quickly. Scary at the time, but short-lived fear. 2008 was entirely different. The stock market was the monster of all roller coasters, plunging us down, down, down. We didn't know where the bottom of the coaster ride was. The pull-back took much, much longer. I totally agree. It seemed like it would never end. Maybe living through 2008 gave me the guts to ignore the ups and downs of 2020. 2008 showed the power of central banks. Now we don’t need to worry about market drops of more than 5% because the circuit breaker will trip and the CBs ...

Even looking at a planet is just another dot of light in the sky. What I enjoy is how astronomical bodies move and the ancient lore of all these. For instance, one can easily detect the movement of planets against the reference star background. Also I can identify and name the top 20 or so brightest stars in the sky and many of the constellations. One doesn't need binoculars for any of this. I like Steven L. Three separate decks built within a year of each other 15 years ago in different environments. Two Trex and the third TimberTech. The Trex did not wear nearly as well as the TimberTech which has a much harder cap on it. The Timbertech had the benefit of being southern exposed and in sun all day as opposed to the Trex which was northern exposed and more shade. The Timbertech gets pressure washed every couple of years and still looks new. The Trex looks ok after pressure washing but gets rougher each time. The one with more sun exposure and less tree sap did better but I am considering replacing both in the not too distant future. Pressure treated in the shady location did not do well prior to the Trex.
