To eliminate any uncertainty about the tax credit, I would pull a Form 8962 and bang through a pro-forma for 2018 using the SLCSP Healthcare.gov is showing you. My tax credit matched what Healthcare.gov is telling me.

I have over 50% in taxable accounts with the rest in TIRA/Roth/HSA. There's no other way to create space in tax-deferred (short of w*rking) so the HSA is valuable. Plus as mentioned the above-the-line deduction is very nice. The first question is obviously whether the HDHP is suitable.
