Re: Are value stocks ready for a revival?

good thing the total stock market has both value and growth: owning the total market means i don't have to worry which is going to outperform when. I've got value, growth, small, mid, large, all sectors covered. don't have to wait for a revival. This answer is so boring that you know it's gotta be ...

Very odd. Unless it's a tiny "mom and pop" type place, I would think this person was bluffing and they aren't actually monitoring.

Re: 30YO Biglaw Associate- Advice Welcome!!

+1 to all the comments that the pay cut won't be as big as you think - not uncommon to make the same or more when jumping from big law to a top tier company. Going in-house can take time to find the right gig, though. It's not like law firms where they're always looking for people to churn through. ...

Re: IPO Access?

Sounds like you can buy in as soon as it starts trading (like you could anywhere else) but you can’t buy early at the official IPO price.

Fidelity allows you to do this: https://www.fidelity.com/customer-servi ... -in-an-ipo

Re: Suggestions requested, investing 500k.

Re: DCA - if you had $500k invested in a tax-advantaged account (where trades don’t cost you anything) right now, would you sell a portion of it, hold as cash, and buy back in later? If not, then don’t try to DCA as it’s the same thing. Lots of people have lost lots of money waiting to buy. Just put...

Re: Employee Over Paid by Six Digits

It’s 100% the case that some states have specific laws covering this situation and what you can/can’t do in it, so you’ll definitely want to figure that out first. As others have said, (1) don’t risk a good business partnership and a good employee over money that you didn’t even realize was missing ...

Re: Roth or Traditional 401K for sons?

My argument for Roth would be....they’re both super early in their careers, and there’s a good chance they will make more money (and be in a higher tax bracket) for most of the rest of their careers. If that’s accurate, then I would consider Roth for now and then traditional in their peak earnings y...

Re: Ok, So what S&P 500 ETF do I buy in my Fidelity Taxable Account?

I own VTI In my Fidelity taxable accounts as well as my Roth’s. I have also owned VOO in these accounts as a TLH partner. I am not charged a $75 fee or any other fee that I see as long as I trade online. So if you like VOO, buy it. It used to be that holding vanguard funds outside of vanguard kept ...

Re: Apple users - iMac and iPad vs MacbookPro?

Do the desktop Macs run cooler? About 10 mins into any zoom call the fan on my MacBook Pro starts up and stays on full speed for the duration of the call. The desk gets noticeably warm on longer calls. It’s a little frustrating because my MacBook is only 3 years old, but I did get the base model wi...

3 is an incredible car but not in the same class as S. If money is no object, a new S is the obvious choice.

If waiting till next year to buy, would also consider the Cybertruck.

Re: Apple users - iMac and iPad vs MacbookPro?

I have both setups (27” SSD iMac and newer MacBook Pro). Both are great for different reasons, but I almost always use the MacBook Pro. I think you’d enjoy it a lot more if you got the following: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P54RSPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pIFnFb95TENQ2 - stand, lets you use your MacBo...

Welcome! Congrats on your emergency fund and zero debt - that's awesome! I'm new here too, but my thoughts for what they're worth... 0) You didn't ask about this, but I would suggest thinking about re-ordering your priorities to i) house, ii) retirement, then iii) cars. Just because the more you put...

Re: What price range for Daughter's first car?

Dave Ramsey's rule of thumb on cars, which I think is generally a decent one, is: The total value of your vehicles (anything with a motor in it) should never be more than half of your annual household income. So in that regard, she could go up to $40k. That's the absolute max, though, not a recommen...

Re: Assets going from 600K->15M, should I change my asset allocation?

First, congratulations - you did it!! :sharebeer I personally know several people who have been in your exact shoes before, and my best advice would be: 1) Don't quit your job yet....wait at least 6-12 months for the euphoria/shock to wear off and then reassess. You've been working toward that finan...

Small value outperformance - already priced in?

Recent follower of Bogleheads and WCI here. I'm using the three-fund portfolio now, heavily weighted toward a total U.S. market fund, and I'm trying to make a "to tilt or not to tilt" decision. So my question is about factor investing and tilting toward small cap value in particular. I und...
