There is no fee if you use Amex send and save. Load money into your account from your Amex app and then go to Venmo to pay it. You can also move money back to your Amex card.

Where to put money needed in 4 years
How do I invest money that I may need in 4 years in the current climate? I understand that even though bonds will fall when interest rates rise that interest payments will increase. Does that mean a shorter term bond fund is still ok right now?

Re: Restricting Traditional IRA
If the IRA is left to a trust, is it still distributed in 10 years? The problem is we can’t guarantee that this person will actually leave the IRA to his children. Right now I think it is left to a trust.bsteiner wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 7:53 pm The better way is to leave your IRA to your children in trust rather than outright. The trusts could be in your Will or in a separate trust instrument, and the beneficiary designation would name the trusts as the beneficiaries.
Any law firm with a good trusts and estates practice should be able to do this.

Yes, I always wanted to be a SAHM. I quit my
job even though my husband’s salary was low.
I would rather not spend as much and get to raise my child. I will never get this time back. Also, this set up works better for my family.
You are in an excellent financial position. Also, a second income is taxed a lot more than the first.

I would not do this. What if they start them on their own? There are limits to how much they can contribute.
As far as I know, it has to be their name on the account.
I would just gift them the money for the account.

Re: Challenging a physician's bill
I would also add that this is the price that they would bill your insurance, and if it was in network, your insurance would pay a lower negotiated rate.
I would politely call, explain that you were told that your insurance was accepted, otherwise you would have made an appointment with a different practice. I would say that I understand that the insurance usually pays you less than what they bill you. Is there anyway that you could please pay a more reasonable price- could they please look up the “cash price” (what people pay without insurance)?
If you are not given a reasonable price, ask to speak to the billing manager and be sure to state that you were told that your insurance was accepted and ask for a more affordable price

Re: Jane Bryant Quinn, stock allocation before / after retirement
This does not sound like a good idea to me. Sure, you can pick times where it would work. But taking on more risk when you are living off your retirement account and decreasing the amount of fixed income that you can pull from in a down market just does not seem sensible to me.
For example, you could be increasing your equities in a high market, and then you have 10 years of lower markets. I take on more risk now in the accumulation stage. Once I am close to retirement and also when I am retired, I definitely want less risk.

You are right, but people like this won’t listen to you. My dad is like this. Plus, you could tell him to get out and then it keeps going up.
If your dad is not criticizing you for the way you invest,
just be thankful for that. My dad criticized me the other day for not being “aggressive” enough.
And what is so obnoxious is that every time I see my dad, he has to mention what the price is of his stock that has soared (but says nothing on down days). Hopefully your dad does not do this.

My current AA is 80/20. I am planning to follow this AA at least for now. Since I don’t need my money for years, I will be ok if we have another correction.
I have to say that I see how bubbles are created. My dad (a performance chaser) sees how much the nasdaq is up and says buy QQQ! He sold an ETF of blue chip stocks to buy QQQ. So I do think w some stocks this is fear of missing out?

I understand your thoughts. I have had the same thoughts, but I know that I cannot time the market. I would not have expected the market to recover so quickly. Of course it is primarily big tech which has put the market back where it was. There are plenty of other stocks which have a ways to go to recover.
I also think that the election will impact the markets. I figure since I am 77/23 that I can rebalance if the market goes down. I am afraid that if I sell that I would end up losing money by missing gains, and I don’t want to take that risk. I would rather just rebalance.
You are only 36, so the market is going to be way, way higher than it is today when you retire.

If you own both stock and bond funds, you don’t have to try to time the market. If the market falls, you will be rebalancing by selling bonds and buying stocks. This is what I love about rebalancing.
Like I have read on this board before, if you’re really panicked, you may have the wrong asset allocation (too much in stocks).

Yeah, I understood going in that I would not get any Hilton points when going through Amex.com, but I didn’t know that I wouldn’t get any benefits. Going direct next time except will use my hotels.com stamps one last time as I have eight stamps and with the promotion, get one stamp free if I book another night therefore letting me have ten stamps and a free night. I didn’t find out about this deal until after my Hilton booking. So far unimpressed with the Amex card. Love the CSR so far. Going to use that and my Capitalone pretty much for all my expenses. If you still love the CSR after awhile, you can get the most points by pairing it with the Chase Freedom and Chase Unlimited. You can transfer your points from these cards to your CSR for ...

I also prefer the CSR over Amex. I am thinking about changing my CSR to a CSP though since they increased the fee. I don’t like using their portal and booking through a third party. I primarily transfer the points. I have to do the math to see if it is worth it for what I will spend next year. Yes, not only do you not get your status recognized, you don’t earn points at hotels if you book through a third party.
