Re: What one Book to read about personal finance?

I haven't read them all yet, but I Will Teach You to Be Rich by Rami Sethi is easy to follow and targeted at a younger audience (20s and 30s) https://www.amazon.com/Will-Teach-You-Rich-Second-ebook/dp/B07GNXPP4P If debt is an issue, I agree Dave Ramsey is a good choice, but to get started on investi...

Re: Help setting up Mass Mutual account

35% Legal & General S&P 500 10% Vanguard Small Cap Index Fund 15% BlackRock iShares Int'l Ind Fund 40% Vanguard Intrm-trm Bond Index Fund I found out my plan no longer offers the Vanguard small cap fund. So, my option would be the 100% Target Retirement Fund or 45% Legal & General S&...

Re: Inherited IRA and SECURE act

Thanks all- very helpful suggestions! If you ignore the temptation to break it evenly over the next ten years, if you withdraw just barely enough to fill your current marginal tax bracket to the top each year, would the final withdrawal of the remaining balance push you up two brackets? Or just one/...

Inherited IRA and SECURE act

Hi all, I am a non eligible designated beneficiary and have inherited a traditional qualified IRA from my parents. The Secure Act mandates that I empty the account in 10 years with no RMDs required. Which asset allocation strategy would you use in the inherited account? I am thinking of keeping it i...

Re: Help setting up Mass Mutual account

I will agree with the others that preserving the backdoor Roth is better long term in this case; .17% AUM is quite reasonable (my own MassMutual plan fee of .46% makes things less clear cut, which is why I asked!) For the SECURE Act inheritance, since you're trying to stretch it out and maximize th...

Re: Help setting up Mass Mutual account

As Kenkat astutely explained, the Vanguard Target Date Fund is just a wrapper for the same kind of funds you would put in your own portfolio. Depending on the target date you choose, the bond allocation could be different, and the international allocation would certainly be larger at 40% of stock i...

Re: Help setting up Mass Mutual account

1. What is the administrative fee on the new employer's 401(k) plan? (This is separate from the fund expense ratios and appears in the plan disclosures. Asset charge of 0.17% ) 2. Is any of the inheritance in retirement accounts subject to the SECURE Act or is it all taxable? I was told only the di...

Re: Help setting up Mass Mutual account

Thank you for the very helpful replies! That makes a lot of sense and is along the lines in what I was thinking but I am still learning so tend to second guess myself. I appreciate the help. I am considering the Vanguard Target Date Fund in the Mass Mutual account. The reason for looking for other o...

Help setting up Mass Mutual account

I am a new to Bogleheads and have read the book and the Wiki pages. My parents both passed away within the last 18 months so I have a windfall of cash , but on the advice of books on the subject, not rushing into spending or allocating it. I also started a new job a few months ago and need to start ...

Inherited Portfolio Review

Hi, New to the forum. I have Target Date Funds and Index Funds in my personal account now, but started studying so I can diversify. I also inherited a Schwab account from my dad, that I am managing for my mom in hospice care at a nursing facility. I need to rebalance and draw some money out of the a...
