I am 29 years old and I have my Roth IRA with Vanguard. The only fund I have in it is the Target 2060 Fund (VTTSX). Should I keep my portfolio like this or should I add another fund?. The Target funds are stand alone, all in one funds. They don't "need" anything added. You should look at your Roth ...

Re: HEDGEFUNDIE's excellent adventure Part II: The next journey

Hello everyone, I followed this thread back a few months ago but I am coming back to see how things are going. How many of you guys are running this in your Roth IRA and what percentage is it of your Roth portfolio? I am thinking about adding some but I want to see what how you guys are doing it. I ...

Re: Thinking About Adding some UPRO/TMF to Taxable Portfolio?

What if I did this with VTI? What would the chances of a margin call on VTI be? You could do it with VTI. About the same. Ah I see. I may start small and I see what happens. I wonder if adding a bond etf to my portfolio will help prevent a margin call. Maybe 90/10 with a tax efficient bond fund. Wo...

Same.
I’ve toyed around with the idea of putting just $100 into a M1 account and seeing what will happen to it.

Re: Thinking About Adding some UPRO/TMF to Taxable Portfolio?

Here's an alternative idea for your M1 account: Take the 35% margin loan. Buy a long-term diversified fund (e.g. S&P 500). Keep adding to loan if <35% and buy more. Don't sell. Advantages: No volatility decay or daily leveraged instrument issues. No rebalance timing issues, worst case with not keep...

Re: HEDGEFUNDIE's excellent adventure Part II: The next journey

Trying to calculate the current % of UPRO and TMF and buying in that allocation just takes more work IMO. It’s actually fairly simple, I have this automated in a spreadsheet with helpful pie charts too. If you did this portfolio in M1, couldn’t this effect be achieved by making regular contribution...

Re: HEDGEFUNDIE's excellent adventure Part II: The next journey

Hello everyone I have been reading this thread the past few days and I am intrigued by HedgeFundie’s approach. I use M1 as my taxable brokerage account . I am about to move money over to a VTI and I was wondering if it would make sense for me add the 55/45 UPRO TMF as a small slice of my pie say 5% ...
