I had an $8 penalty listed by Block. I had made a large IRA RMD in January, so filed out the form 2210 simple part with the summation actual withholding for each quarter, along with a December payment through direct payment, and the 8$ penalty went away.

I purchased a 2024 Forester touring last month for $750 under sticker cash payment, no add-ons or extended warranty. I likely paid too much for it, but am too old to haggle these days, not worth the time I have left.

"Joan Baez, I am Noise"
I liked this documentary on Hulu!
From Rottentomatoes.com "Absorbing purely as a chronicle of her remarkable career, Joan Baez I Am a Noise is also moving as a depiction of one woman's personal journey from pain to peace and forgiveness."

We have a low mileage 2006 prius. The hybrid battery died last year after 40,000 miles, and 17 years. It was 3k to replace with a new OEM at a non-dealer shop. The auxiliary battery also died for the second time, and it is more expensive than an ICE car battery.

"Dumb Money" on Netflix Wall Street hedge funds vs reddit Robinhood investors who "got rich" by turning GameStop (the video game store) into the world's hottest company. Covers Keith Gill (Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. Also stars Seth Rogen and Pete Davidson. Somewhat interesting and a few laughs. So so overall.

It appears much less than had planned. I retired at 56, an am now 73. My accounts are now approaching 5x what they were at retirement. That includes a move from a central CA home to a much more expensive CA coastal home. I am overly frugal I surmise. I see this happening a lot. Sounds like we all overestimate how much money we need and keep working to save more even though we have crossed the threshold at which retirement would be comfortable if not lavish. It is more that people plan for the worst and then get average results. To some extent it is an unsolvable problem. And no buying an annuity and getting bottom 5% results 100% of the time doesn't really solve the problem:) Now 5x over 17 years is still an outlier. That is a combo of not...

Now through Nov. 27, Max is offering its Max With Ads plan for $2.99 per month for six months. It's usually $9.99 per month, so you can save more than $40 as you make your way through the best of HBO (and maybe some trash TV courtesy of the 90 Day Fiancé universe). It'll auto-renew at $9.99 after the discounted trial unless you cancel.
The deal is open to new and returning Max customers on Max.com, though Max doesn't specify if there are any restrictions on the "returning" group. You can also get it if you sign up via Roku, Google Play, and Apple. It's limited to new customers if you sign up via Amazon Fire.

Bought my last car with a check. Dealer wanted may bank name and account number so they could call and verify funds. I made sure that the account did not have any more in the account then I was willing to pay in case they said if the amount was x more than I was offering, the bank would say a check for that amount would not clear.

Last race was a 4-miler over rolling hills in 29:20 at the age of 72. Still running 30-35 miles and 6 days a week, though it often is no longer a glide, and sometimes a struggle on the speed workout days. Re: H&R Block, 72yo, First RMD split between 22/23 issue
I agree with you, I had the same thought after sleeping on it. I rememberd that I read the IRS gets its RMD information from the custodians in the May report they send in which has balance and distribution reporting. 5329 is for when you know you have a penalty due or messed up and need to ask for an explanation.toddthebod wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 11:26 pm I'm pretty sure you just need to fudge it. There's nowhere on the tax return that says, "this is my RMD," is there? It's just a taxable distribution from an IRA. So tell the software your RMD was $4,000, and that you took a distribution of $4,000. Next year add $14,400 to the 2023 amount and tell the software that is your RMD. The only reason they ask what your RMD amount is is to trigger form 5329 if necessary.

Secondcor521, thanks, will see if I can get a response from Block, if someone here has not yet worked it out.
