Re: Thoughts on Tennessee

Except for 4 years in Kansas and 1 year in Kentucky, I've lived my entire life in TN. A couple of things first, 1) Deliverance was set in North Georgia 2) The hall tax is just divides and interest, not capital gains https://revenue.support.tn.gov/hc/en-us/articles/203043349-Are-capital-gains-or-retu...

Re: A dumb vehicle trade-in scenario?

I would negotiate the price of the car you want to buy separate from any trade-in value. Get that price as low as possible. Once that's done, go to carmax and see what their offer is, find out what the dealer will give you before showing them the carmax offer. If the carmax offer is higher (probably...

Re: Is it unreasonable to expect custom blinds in new construction?

I don't know why it matters, if you do get it added they'll just add x to the contract price. If I had to pick, I would rather do it myself because then you know exactly the quality and price of the blinds. If you have them do it, they'll just find the cheapest place that will install.

Re: New Vehicle Suggestions - need more utility

AWD is nice until you get a nail in one of your tires side wall and have to replace more than 1 tire because the awd system doesn't like the difference in tire tread. I was lucky enough to only have to replace 1 additional tire but it still sucks when you have half the life left in the tread. Our Bu...

I have porcelain grates and plan on buying the stainless steel grates or grill grates if I ever need to replace. I use a wooden grill scraper that works well.

I think you could ask the sellers for their annual utilities to get an idea of heating cost and water consumption.

Re: If Jeep has such poor reliability, how come they are everywhere?

I've owned a 98 grand cherokee and an 07 wrangler rubicon unlimited. I loved the grand cherokee and it was probably one of the best driving SUV's at the time. If I had 4wd with that cherokee I would probably still own it. As far as the wrangler, you could only included maybe 1 or 2 other vehicles th...

Not school related but make sure you include the property taxes when looking at homes. Depending on where you are moving from they can be relatively high. No state income tax :sharebeer

Re: ADT security - cost

My previous home had a wired security system and I think I went with Simplisafe but not sure. Anyway, I had to open the main security panel and install some equipment into the existing wiring which was pretty easy. I also bought a few extra wireless sensors to cover the back doors.

Re: what to do about 1000s of dandelions/weeds?

You would have to spread about 35 bags of milorganite if you wanted to cover 2 acres at the bag rate. Milo isn't very economical when you have anything over 1/4 acre lawn. As far as weeds, if you don't want to use herbicides then I'd just let it be. Fertilize in the spring and fall, overseed in the ...

Re: Reel Grass Mower

I looked at Tru-Cut, California Trimmers and Swardman. I liked the fact that Tru-Cut has a Honda engine and very easy height adjustment. I was really attracted to the cartridge system of the Swardman. Carrying in a cartridge for sharpening sure beats trying to load and unload a 200 + lb mower into ...

Re: Ring video doorbell question

I can barely see a small portion of my porch but the packages are not usually delivered in that area. I have the wedge installed. I installed a ring doorbell and a security camera a few months ago. We pay 100 per year for monitoring and I think I might buy the security system since the 100 covers al...

And his Zoysia shouldn't need a PGR at all. With the Tru Cut reel mower you can adjust the height very ea...

Re: Problems with Xfinity Internet drops

I had a problem with an Arris modem earlier in the year. It just stopped working one day and of course both Arris and Comcast were pointing the finger at each other. I think I figured out that comcast had an update over night and they had not fixed the issue with the Arris modems. I ended up purchas...

Re: Get a 2nd Refrigerator for Home, and put in garage - Good idea?

We just put a Best Buy frig/freezer in our garage. You can choose either refrigerator or freezer. The problem with most of the newer refrigerators is they won't run when it's cold in your garage and the items you have in the freezer thaw out. I don't think you normally have this problem with an all ...

What if you test drove the non-hybrid version? I know the drive wouldn't be exactly the same but you would get a good feel for the car.
