Re: Tax Deadline Tomorrow - Return (Presumably) Sitting in a Truck Somewhere

Sent my filing March 10th and delivered March 13th to Kansas City center. No activity on status until July 12th with filing now being processed. Looks like they are unloading the trucks finally.

Re: No tax return after >10 weeks?

Mailed my return on March 10th and delivered on 13th to Kansas City. Just checked IRS refund status window and it indicates they have received my paper filing and are now processing. I have checked this status each week since March so it looks like returns are finally being taken off the truck and p...

Re: Tax return lost in mail (during weird pandemic times...)

I don't think any processing is happening. Mailed my Fed return via certified mail on 3/13 and it shows delivered on 3/17. I still have not received the certified postcard back yet which leads to believe it is stacked in a mail cart somewhere at the facility. Same with my state return. Wish I could ...

Re: Advice on how to file taxes for teenager

I file because my daughter has a Roth IRA she contributes too. The filing shows her taxable Compensation for this purpose even though she owed no taxes. My daughter also has a Roth. Is the reason for filing just record keeping? Or is it required to file with Roth? Thanks. Not a CPA so don’t know ex...

Re: Advice on how to file taxes for teenager

I filed for my teenage daughter using FreeTaxUsa. Free Federal and GA state filings.

Whatever you use, make sure to check the box “ Someone can claim: You as a dependent” at the start of the 1040 form if you already claimed them on your return.

Re: Another excess Roth contribution removal

Thanks for the responses. I talked to Schwab and you are correct that the earnings are negative during the March time period thus explaining the loss of $26. I'll make sure to include an explanatory statement. Yes, her AGI for 2019 was $427. Gross was $523. She had two expenses for $96, referee rene...

Another excess Roth contribution removal

My daughter has a small Roth IRA ($800) that she contributes to from her soccer referee job. In 2019, she contributed $523 to the Roth. After running her tax scenario on FreetaxUSA for 2019 filing, there was an excess contribution of $96. We requested the $96 excess withdrawal from Schwab (had them ...

Re: Fidelity 1099-R combined

Alan, Thank you very much for the explanation. My 1040 looks correct now along with Box 4d. Didn't use a TT "substitute 1099-r" but entered it as another 1099-r. The reason for the different rollover types is because I made three separate rollover transactions during 2019 from the plan as ...

Re: Fidelity 1099-R combined

sled777 , welcome to the forum. I received a Fidelity 1099-R for an employer plan 401(b) After-tax rollover to a Roth IRA. Normally I roll all the earnings straight out of the plan into a Roth IRA but for some odd reason I had a transaction in 2019 where I put some earnings into a Rollover IRA. The...

Re: Fidelity 1099-R combined

Did some pre tax earnings go to TIRA and some to Roth? What amounts are in Box 2a and 5, and do those amounts look correct for the money rolled to the Roth IRA? Box 2a shows $80.13. Box 5 shows $17,223.61. Yes, earnings of $118.10 went into TIRA and $80.13 went to Roth. The amounts look correct. Se...

Fidelity 1099-R combined

I received a Fidelity 1099-R for an employer plan 401(a) After-tax rollover to a Roth IRA. Normally I roll all the earnings straight out of the plan into a Roth IRA but for some odd reason I had a transaction in 2019 where I put some earnings into a Rollover IRA.
