Re: Buy house with coronavirus uncertainty?

I would hold off for about six months. The banks are suspending mortgage payments for three months now. Around three months after that, we'll find out how many people default and have to walk away from their houses. If prospective buyers cancel their plans, too, values could really dive.

But I'm not sure that holding TBM is the right choice.
What's wrong with TBM? It's basically flat since January 1st. How is that bad in this environment?
Agree. It's also the only low-cost bond fund choice for many, many workers' 401k.

Re: The Calm Post - Stay the course thread.

I am 86. How many market downturns have passed in my lifetime? I won't count. I have lived off of my savings for over almost 23 years (no pension). I have more in my savings than 23 years ago. I am healthy. Be calm, love your family, have a good time, eat well, exercise, sleep well, say "I love you...

Re: Anybody want to guess the bottom of this "dip"?

Everyone who is so sure that a vaccine will take more than a year to be discovered must know a heck of a lot more than scientists. A vaccine could be discovered tomorrow. A formula that scientists have been working with for years for something else could be found to wipe out this virus.

Re: Coronavirus and the bear market

Good points. And it's becoming more and more obvious that Americans aren't getting the truth about what's really going on in the US re: the govt preparing, monitoring, or even understanding. The CDC and state laboratories have been forthcoming about the issues with the test kits sent out. Confirmed...

Re: Coronavirus and the bear market

The US was in deep correction from Dec 2018. The emerging market had been in the bear market even before the Coronavirus outbreak. This is looking like a global pandemic and the market is trying to price this in. No one knows how long this will last. Would things get better during the summer months...

Guys are making a mint selling masks they got for ten cents each in bulk for ten bucks each now.

I'm mostly stocking up on stuff we usually buy just in case the stores get wiped out or we don't want to go to them. Amazon delivery drivers must be unhappy campers nowadays.

Thought I read that Warren and Charlie aren't going to be present (or presenting) this year.
In the annual letter, Warren said Ajit Jain and Greg Abel will be joining him and Charlie in taking questions.
Okay. Sounded unclear. Guess the new guys will be in addition, not instead of.

Re: Vanguard 2020-2030 Returns Projection Table

To put these forecasts in perspective, I went back and looked at all of Vanguard's projections I could find going back to 2014. Basically they have forecasted below average returns and recommended caution/stay the course every year since 2014, and probably before that. 2020 is just the latest examp...

Get a strong UV flashlight going in total darkness and find the concealed stains you don't want to know anything about but have to. Take photos and share them with the dealer.

Non-financial advice: get on your knees and thank your wife for going through all of the pain and agony for you. That respect goes a long way. :sharebeer

Re: Showing receipt at Walmart

Actually, shoplifters DO walk out with stolen items in hand or in cart because they believe there are so many people entering and exiting at once, they can just walk out then dash while security tries to figure out who set the alarm off. You're right... just smiling and focusing on the 70- (or 80-) ...

Re: Moving due to house/location regret?

Yes. Experienced similar and got out. My wife, who is smarter than me, pointed out life is short and that we shouldn't look at it as a mistake we regretted but rather as a learning experience. You can't truly know what a house/neighborhood are truly like unless you actually live in that situation. A...

Linking bank at T Rowe Price

I went to link my bank to my T Rowe account. They bypass the micro deposits process and ask you to sign into your bank account through the T Rowe website. :annoyed Not comfortable doing this. Anyone else link this way?
