Germany is "exporting" their Grandmas... Could We?

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-09-26/germany-exports-its-seniors-to-nursing-homes-abroad Interesting read in Bloomberg Businessweek (See above link) Germans are taking advantage of Poland's cheaper labor by sending their seniors to Poland. Seems like something like that might be workable with Mexico or even some of the Central American countries. Certainly many American citizens are living outside the US, where their retirement savings go much further. I received an email recently from a former peer who has moved to Boquete, Panama. And, unlike Europe, where countries are small and compact, our country is vast, BUT Americans are used to great distances separating loved ones from each other. Chances are, even if you have good LTC...

Re: How did you/your child pay for college?

Why do these discussions always turn into a boosting contest and that somehow one is a better person because of how they financed their education.I don't believe there is necessarily a correlation between a child helping to pay for college and how well they do in school or life for that matter. there is so much more to that then whether a parent foots the entire college bill or not. For example, my husband and his sister and one of my brothers had their entire undergrad educations paid for by parents and or grandparents. they are 3 of the hardest working people I know and never led an entitled life. They did not goof off because they didn't contribute, instead they worked very hard to get into med school and Ph.d programs. Message deleted.

Why would the kids suddenly need clothing just because school is starting? What (if anything) did they wear during the summer?
In Florida during the summer it was shorts and a tee-shirt, if any shirt at all. Not acceptable school clothes when I attended school.

As well, kids grow sometimes a great deal, year to year, so shopping for schools clothes are kinda a thing most do.
