If this is your e-fund and you are not planning to hold the bonds more than 5 years, I would not wait for an extra 10 bps. At the maximum allowable purchase, a 10bp increase in the fixed rate is an extra $10 a year in potential lost interest or $50 over 5 years.

Your wife has all components to approximate total stock market index - 70% s and p 500, 20% midcap, 10% small cap. The Wellington fund is 65% large value, 35% Intermediate corporate bonds. How old are you? Are there any other funds available in your 401k plan - besides the two you listed?
