Re: Is this a termite?

Cheez-It Guy wrote: Sun Mar 17, 2024 5:37 pm Carpenter ants don't actually eat wood. They just excavate and discard it. Perhaps the result is the same, but they do not have the microbiota in the gut to digest the cellulose.

There are also so many types of ants that are NOT carpenter ants. Is everyone assuming that is a carpenter ant just because the OP asked whether it was a termite?
I identified this ant as a Carpenter Ant from the photo as it appears to have one node behind a smooth rounded thorax.

Re: Is this a termite?

Definitely a carpenter ant.

Spraying insecticide only kills ants that walk over the residue.
A method that is well proven to kill many types of insects including ants and will
destroy the nest as it contains a lure that smells like food.
Workers will carry it back to the nest and feed the queen.
Ants vary their appetite so the common practice of sugar and borax doesn't
always work.
The lure used in this product makes the difference.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General "Some Medicare Advantage Organization Denials of Prior Authorization Requests Raise Concerns About Beneficiary Access to Medically Necessary Care" https://oig.hhs.gov/oei/reports/OEI-09-18-00260.pdf "What OIG Found Our case file reviews determined that MAOs sometimes delayed or denied Medicare Advantage beneficiaries’ access to services, even though the requests met Medicare coverage rules. MAOs also denied payments to providers for some services that met both Medicare coverage rules and MAO billing rules. Denying requests that meet Medicare coverage rules may prevent or delay beneficiaries from receiving medically necessary care and can burden provider...

Re: Any unusual medicare advantage benefits - I get $10 a month to exercise

I was wondering if anyone has unusual medicare advantage benefits of which others may not be aware. I have an Employer Sponsored UHC Medicare Advantage Plan. I was required to change from AARP Medigap Advantage G or else lose my $3,000 p.a. benefit. So far the new plan has provided me with great savings. On Medigap G, I was paying a premium of $200 per month and it was going up each year. Now I have no premiums with a maximum OOP of $750. Previously I paid $800 p.a. for Part D. I pay nothing for my prescription drug of a statin. I have to make two yearly co-pays of $150 for Prolia (an osteoporosis drug.) I just turned 80 and fortunately am healthy. I work at it - weight control, healthy diet and lots of exercise. I have the usual medicare ...

The recall affects Toyota Tacoma trucks in the U.S. from the 2022 and 2023 model years, the company said in a release.
Welding debris left on the ends of the rear axles could cause some nuts to loosen over time before falling off, resulting
in another part separating from the axle, according to Toyota, which said vehicle stability and brake performance could
be affected if the part falls off.

Re: What is Medicare Advantage "gotch ya!" ???

The concern for me with Medicare Advantage plans is the high denial rate for services.
They are fine if you are and stay healthy.
Too many examples of issues when expensive care is needed with first hand experience when a close relative was diagnosed with a serious health condition.
There is plenty of literature available online regarding the problems associated with private health insurers.

Re: [Debt ceiling discussion mega-thread]

The Joint Committee on Taxation and the Congressional Budget Office have published several estimates of TCJA’s expected budget impact. These estimates all show TCJA substantially reducing revenues and increasing deficits over its first decade. The specific amount varies—from about $1 trillion to $2 trillion—for three reasons. TCJA would increase deficits by about $1.5 trillion over 10 years. This figure comes from the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) and Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO’s) conventional score. JCT projected that the law would reduce revenues by $1.65 trillion from 2018 to 2027. JCT’s original dynamic score found that the TCJA would boost economic activity (not growth) by an average of about 0.7 percent over the budget win...

With all the 4,000 to 7,000 lb suvs and trucks on the road I would not be interested in driving a 900lb. cart in the roadways.
